The bakery department at Tony's Market plays a crucial role in the overall customer experience, responsible for preparing and serving a variety of baked goods, including cookies, pies, brownies, cakes, and pastries. The Bakery Customer Service position reports directly to the Bakery Manager and is focused on delivering extraordinary customer service. The role involves greeting customers promptly, responding to inquiries, fulfilling special orders, and effectively managing customer complaints to ensure complete satisfaction.

This position requires employees to not only handle food preparation and serving but also to engage proactively with customers by educating them on new or additional products and services, suggesting high-value options to enhance sales. Employees in this role must have excellent organizational skills to take accurate customer orders, label items correctly using appropriate pricing methods, and maintain the bakery display cases with fresh replenishments. This position requires compliance with all relevant health, safety, and sanitation regulations, ensuring a safe environment for both customers and employees.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of previous bakery customer service experience preferred
  • strong communication skills
  • ability to multitask
  • knowledge of safety, health, and sanitation regulations
  • capable of handling flexible working hours
  • ability to work well in a team environment

Job Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • ability to multitask and use organizational skills
  • 1-2 years previous bakery experience preferred
  • ability to consistently present a professional personal image and uphold the company’s uniform policy
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • ability to comply with all regulatory rules including HACCP, OSHA, Dept. of Labor, Weights and Measures, and local food and sanitation laws
  • demonstrated ability to maintain a safe, clean and well-organized working and shopping environment
  • ability to work a flexible schedule including holidays and weekends

Job Duties

  • Immediately greet all customers and ensure extraordinary customer service
  • provide extraordinary service by responding to customer inquiries, fulfilling special requests via special orders or requesting transfers, and effectively resolving complaints
  • solicit sale of new or additional services or products by educating customers and offering suggestions
  • take customers' orders and write ordered items on tickets
  • prepare food such as cookies, pies, brownies, etc. using recipes or following directions
  • serve food, beverages, or pastries to customers
  • wrap menu items such as cakes, pies, and pastries for customer orders
  • label items sold using scales or other pricing methods
  • review orders for completeness, if out of stock, contact Department Manager to place special order or contact other stores to check for availability
  • fulfill special orders and requests utilizing all tools provided
  • replenish foods in demos and display cases
  • abide by safety, health and security rules
  • complete special projects and other duties as assigned
  • regular and predictable attendance
