The Bakery Clerk role at Sprouts Farmers Market is essential in delivering freshly prepared baked goods that meet the high standards of quality and presentation customers expect. The role involves assisting the Bakery Manager in a variety of responsibilities, including baking cookies, bread, muffins, and other bakery products using proven ingredients. Beyond preparation and baking, the Bakery Clerk handles packaging, pricing, merchandising, and stock control to maintain a visually appealing and well-organized bakery section. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the bakery area is a critical aspect of the position, ensuring compliance with safety, health, and food handling regulations. This role demands attention to detail in product rotation to minimize waste and adherence to quality standards with regular inspection of shipments. Excellent customer service skills are required to engage with customers effectively, take special orders via phone, and contribute to a welcoming atmosphere in the store. The position requires standing for long periods, physical stamina for handling trays and items up to 40 pounds, and the ability to operate various equipment safely. Job Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years bakery experience or acceptable combination of education and experience
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Outgoing and friendly behavior with positive attitude
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to take direction and work as part of a team
  • Ability to answer phones and take special orders
  • Perform general housekeeping and clean work area including tables, floors, walls, coolers, and freezers
  • Ability to operate knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks
  • Ability to stand up to 3 hours continuously for up to 8 hours per shift
  • Ability to transfer trays up to 5 lbs vertically from 7 to 64 inches
  • Ability to transfer items up to 40 lbs vertically and horizontally for distances up to 36 feet without mechanical assistance
  • Adhere to safety, health, and weights and measures regulations
  • Maintain Food Handler's permit

Job Qualifications

  • Be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Have 1-2 years bakery experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrate dependable and reliable work ethic with flexible scheduling availability
  • Possess outgoing and friendly behavior with positive attitude and customer interaction skills
  • Have good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to perform general housekeeping and sanitation tasks
  • Ability to operate bakery equipment safely and accurately
  • Have a Food Handler's permit or ability to obtain one

Job Duties

  • Assist the Bakery Manager in preparing, baking, packaging, pricing, and merchandising all baked goods
  • Provide a high level of customer service and ensure bakery items are properly prepared and presented
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and sanitation of bakery area and equipment
  • Stock, fill, face, and ensure pricing accuracy while rotating products and discarding outdated items
  • Receive, inspect, and log shipments for quality and accuracy
  • Operate bakery equipment including knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, and pallet jacks
  • Answer phones and take special orders
