Job Description
16 On Center Chicago is a prominent live entertainment and hospitality group that owns and operates multiple live music venues, restaurants, bars, food halls, and third-party production services across Chicago and New York. As one of the country's leading independent promoters, the company is deeply committed to creating vibrant cultural spaces and delivering exceptional experiences in the hospitality and live event industries. 16 On Center prides itself on fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment, actively encouraging applicants from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences to join their team. They provide equal opportunities to all employees and applicants without discrimination on any legally protected characteristic, underpinning a workplace culture that respects individuality and promotes equity. This inclusive ethos is central to their community impact and operational success.
The role of Baker / Pastry Cook at Good Ambler, a respected part of the 16 On Center family, is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about high-quality pastry production and innovative baking. This position involves the early morning preparation of laminated breakfast pastries, quick breads, cookies, cakes, jams, custards, and other dessert components that contribute to the café's charm and wholesale distribution network. The baker is expected to start shifts as early as 4 am and must be available for weekend work, indicating the essential nature of timeliness and dedication to craft. Good Ambler emphasizes producing top-tier baked goods, which requires precision, attention to detail, and the capability to work independently and efficiently without compromising quality.
Beyond baking, the role includes responsibilities such as assisting with chocolate production during seasonal periods, handling the packaging and finishing of products, supporting the café by preparing and serving menu items, and maintaining cleanliness and organization within the kitchen. This is a dynamic role which demands a well-rounded approach embracing both culinary skill and teamwork, with a strong emphasis on adaptability and continuous learning. The baker must be comfortable with the physical demands of the job, including long hours on their feet, lifting heavy items, and performing repetitive tasks that are common in commercial baking.
This position offers full-time, hourly employment with competitive compensation based on experience. Benefits include paid leave and sick leave aligned with Chicago regulations, a health insurance plan with employer contributions, voluntary dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, accident, and hospital coverage options. Additionally, employees have access to a 401(k) retirement plan with company matching once eligibility requirements are met. The role comes with attractive perks such as dining discounts at all 16 On Center properties and complimentary or discounted tickets to live shows at venues including Salt Shed, Thalia Hall, SPACE, and Empty Bottle, subject to availability. Transit benefits are also available through a pre-tax payroll deduction program. Joining 16 On Center as a Baker / Pastry Cook means becoming part of a passionate and innovative team that values quality, community, and creativity in every aspect of their work.
