Job Description
Sensible Edible Bakery is NYC's largest gluten-free and vegan commercial bakery, located in Long Island City, New York. As a leader in allergy-safe baking, this establishment specializes in producing high-quality, innovative baked goods that cater to customers with dietary restrictions. We are currently seeking an experienced baker to join our core production team on a full-time basis. This is not an entry-level position; candidates must already have professional baking skills and experience working in a high-volume or commercial baking environment. The role involves producing a wide range of vegan and gluten-free baked goods such as muffins, cookies, bars, and brownies. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing daily production runs using commercial ovens and mixers, learning and mastering our full menu, and maintaining strict adherence to food safety protocols to prevent cross-contamination and uphold allergy-safe standards.
The baker will also be involved in cutting, packing, and assisting with inventory management and purchasing support. Maintaining clean, sanitized workstations and equipment is essential to ensure efficient and safe production practices. This position requires a hands-on approach during busy shifts and large orders, stepping up to support the team wherever necessary. You will work with commercial-grade equipment including an 80-quart floor mixer, double commercial convection ovens, and various standard baking tools. The schedule consists of minimum 7-8 hour days, with Saturdays off and half-days on Mondays, although production needs may vary seasonally.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills, reliability, adaptability to changing schedules and production demands, and the physical ability to lift 50 pounds or more and handle large mixing bowls and commercial equipment. While a Food Protection Certificate is a plus, we provide training and support to help you obtain this certification if you do not already have it. Our onboarding process focuses specifically on Sensible Edible Bakery's recipes, equipment, and production workflow rather than fundamental baking techniques, so prior expertise in scaling, portioning, mixing, baking, and pacing is essential.

Job Requirements
- Hands-on baking experience professional or high-volume preferred
- Ability to consistently lift 50 lbs and handle heavy commercial equipment including moving 80-quart mixing bowls
- Strong communication and reliability
- Adaptability schedule and production needs may shift seasonally
- Must be able to read and execute recipes at production scale
- Must be skilled in scaling, scooping, portioning, piping, sheeting, and panning up
- Ability to operate commercial ovens and mixers
- Food Protection Certificate is a plus if you don't have one we'll help you obtain it
Job Qualifications
- Proven professional baking experience especially in high-volume or commercial settings
- Ability to read and execute recipes at production scale
- Skill in scaling ingredients, scooping, portioning, piping, sheeting, and panning up
- Experience operating commercial ovens and mixers
- Strong communication and reliability
- Adaptability to seasonal schedule and production changes
- Food Protection Certificate is a plus or willingness to obtain
Job Duties
- Produce a wide range of vegan and gluten-free baked goods including muffins, cookies, bars and brownies
- Execute daily production across multiple recipes on commercial ovens
- Learn full menu and run production independently as a core baker
- Follow all food-safety protocols and prevent cross-contamination to maintain strict allergy-safe standards
- Cut and pack brownies and assist with pack-out as needed
- Maintain inventory lists, monitor ingredient levels, and assist with purchasing
- Clean, sanitize and maintain workstations and equipment
- Step up during heavy shifts and large orders
- support the lead baker with any other production or prep tasks as assigned
