The role of Assistant Store Manager at Dollar General is a full-time position that offers a rewarding opportunity to be a part of a thriving retail organization. The Assistant Store Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the store is clean, well-organized, and customer-focused. Under the guidance of the Store Manager, the Assistant Store Manager is responsible for supervising store employees, managing and presenting merchandise effectively, completing necessary paperwork, and preparing deposits. This role also involves performing stocking and cashiering duties. The Assistant Store Manager helps to maximize store profitability and enhance customer satisfaction while protecting company assets and minimizing losses. Core responsibilities include providing superior customer service leadership, operating cash registers, opening and closing the store at least twice a week, assisting with employee scheduling and training, conducting safety meetings, and ensuring policy compliance. Additionally, the position requires managing merchandise processes such as receiving, unpacking, stocking, and maintaining accurate inventory levels. The Assistant Store Manager is also responsible for ensuring the financial integrity of the store through strict cashier accountability, key control, adherence to security practices, and cash control procedures. This position demands strong problem-solving skills, effective communication abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to perform mathematical calculations related to store operations. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred
  • one year of retail experience preferred
  • six months supervisory experience preferred
  • ability to walk and stand frequently
  • ability to bend, stoop and kneel regularly
  • ability to handle and lift up to 40 pounds frequently and 55 pounds occasionally
  • ability to climb up to six feet occasionally
  • willingness to work in fast-paced environment with moderate noise
  • ability to work outdoors occasionally
  • ability to provide own transportation for bank deposits and store visits

Job Qualifications

  • Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • ability to solve problems and handle various situations
  • good organization skills with attention to detail
  • ability to read and interpret safety rules, diagrams, operations manuals and procedures
  • ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentage calculations
  • cash register operation and report generation skills
  • knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies
  • knowledge of cash handling including cashier accountability and deposit control
  • valid driver’s license and ability to drive own vehicle to the bank

Job Duties

  • Provide superior customer service leadership

  • assist with planogram implementation and maintenance
  • ensure financial integrity through cashier accountability and cash control procedures
  • authorize and sign for refunds and overrides
  • count register tills and prepare bank deposits
  • manage store operations in the absence of Store Manager
