The Associate Patient Care Coordinator role at Optum New York involves delivering excellent patient service within a highly organized and fast-paced medical office setting. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 1+ years of computer proficiency including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • 1+ years of customer service or healthcare related experience
  • Ability to travel to other office locations for coverage
  • Ability to be cross trained as a Medical Assistant
  • Availability to work a 37.5-hour work week Sunday through Wednesday with specified shift times
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and OSHA requirements

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 1+ years of computer proficiency including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • 1+ years of customer service or healthcare experience
  • Ability to be cross trained as a Medical Assistant
  • Experience working with electronic health records, preferably EPIC
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of insurance carriers and managed care plans
  • 1+ year of experience in medical front office or urgent care setting
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
  • Ability to work independently with good judgment and accountability
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Job Duties

  • Greet patients, family members and guests with a friendly smile
  • Assist patients with signing in and completing registration
  • Enter and scan patient demographic and insurance information into Epic
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, inform patients of their insurance coverage
  • Follow Payment Security policies according to Optum guidelines
  • Maintain and complete work queue list including referrals and appointment scheduling
  • Check in and check out patients efficiently
  • Answer incoming phone calls politely, direct calls and take messages
  • Assist physician and clinical staff with coordinating follow up care and scheduling referral appointments
  • Send patient records to primary care physicians
  • Obtain accurate and updated patient information
  • Perform insurance verification on the date of service
  • Obtain patient signatures for required documents
  • Adhere to Optum Employee Policies and maintain patient confidentiality
  • Work cohesively with team to achieve goals
  • Maintain composure and efficiency in a fast-paced environment
  • Ensure continuity of care through effective scheduling and tracking
  • Scan and monitor documents accurately
  • Comply with administrative policies to ensure quality care
  • Be cross trained as a Medical Assistant
  • Perform other duties as assigned
