Job Description

Our establishment is a vibrant and bustling hostel located in the heart of San Francisco, catering to a diverse array of international travelers from all corners of the globe. This hostel combines a selection of mostly private rooms with co-ed and female dormitories to accommodate a wide range of guests. Emphasizing cleanliness, a welcoming atmosphere, and operational efficiency, our hostel strives to provide excellent service while remaining accessible and budget-conscious. The environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with no two days ever being the same, making it an exciting place to work for those passionate about the hospitality industry.

We are currently seeking an Assistant to the General Manager to join our team. This hands-on operational role requires a highly organized, detail-oriented individual who is professional and courteous with guests. The position goes beyond traditional front desk responsibilities, involving real operational and administrative duties that help alleviate the management team's workload. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining smooth day-to-day operations, communicating effectively with staff, coordinating schedules, and ensuring that the hostel meets its high standards for guest experience and operational procedures.

This role demands someone who thrives in a demanding hospitality environment, capable of staying calm under pressure, solving problems independently, and balancing guest satisfaction with operational efficiency. The Assistant to the General Manager will be tasked with monitoring reservations, occupancy levels, and room readiness, as well as coordinating with housekeeping and maintenance teams to ensure a seamless service delivery. Operational involvement during busy periods and helping to manage real-time challenges is also a key part of the role.

Applicants should have prior experience in hospitality, with a preference for those who have worked in hostels. Familiarity with the Mews Property Management System is strongly favored. The position is full-time and requires flexibility, including availability for weekends, holidays, and some early morning, evening, and overnight shifts. Professionalism, dependability, and accountability are qualities that we value highly in our team members.

In summary, this role offers an excellent opportunity for anyone who enjoys hospitality and working in a multicultural setting, who values attention to detail, and is eager to contribute to a well-run hostel. If you are proactive, organized, guest-focused, and able to manage the complexities of a busy hostel, we would love to hear from you.
