Job Description

The Home Depot is a well-established home improvement retailer, known for offering a wide range of products and services aimed at both do-it-yourself enthusiasts and professional contractors. With thousands of stores across the United States, The Home Depot is committed to delivering excellent customer service and providing comprehensive solutions for home improvement projects. The company prides itself on a supportive work environment that values employee development and leadership growth. It is a place where associates have opportunities to build rewarding careers in a dynamic retail environment.

The Operations Assistant Store Manager in Training (OASM-IT) role at The Home Depot is designed to prepare individuals for the responsibilities of an Assistant Store Manager through a rigorous and comprehensive training program. This position is vital to the successful operations of the store, as it immerses the trainee in all aspects of store management, including hands-on learning, mentorship, and leadership development. Over a training period that can last up to six weeks, OASM-ITs will learn to manage various store departments such as the Customer Service Desk, Receiving, Tool Rental, Order Fulfillment, Lot Loaders, and the Back Office. In this role, trainees will gain experience in overseeing associate performance, ensuring sales productivity, maintaining safety standards, and guaranteeing product availability and excellent store presentation.

OASM-ITs work closely with Store Managers and Assistant Store Managers, contributing to the development and execution of strategies that enhance store profitability and operational excellence. The role requires strong leadership skills as trainees are expected to lead by example, uphold company policies, and handle operational challenges decisively. The training emphasizes developing competencies such as action orientation, collaboration, effective communication, customer focus, and resourcefulness. Additionally, the role involves some travel, primarily less than 5 percent of the time, and includes physical activity such as standing, walking, and handling materials weighing up to 20 pounds.

This position is well-suited for individuals who are ready to take on leadership roles within retail management, looking to gain extensive knowledge in store operations while developing essential management skills. Candidates embarking on this training program will complete assigned training modules and assessments, participate in performance management processes, and learn to lead sales efforts while fostering a positive customer experience. The Home Depot provides a supportive environment for this career development, offering a structured pathway to assume leadership responsibilities in one of the leading home improvement retail companies in the country.
