Job Description

Hightop Hospitality is a distinguished catering company based in the Twin Cities metro area, supporting four well-established catering brands: The Deco Catering, Kafe 421, Sterling Catering, and Green Mill Catering. Renowned for delivering exceptional culinary experiences, Hightop Hospitality specializes in executing events across a wide variety of venues, making it a premier choice for catering services in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The company prides itself on quality, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to elevating every guest experience through scratch-made products and professional service. With a dedicated team and a focus on excellence, Hightop Hospitality continues to set industry standards for catering and event hospitality in the region.

The Assistant Pastry Chef role at Hightop Hospitality is a unique opportunity to be part of a passionate team committed to crafting exquisite desserts and pastries from scratch for events that guests will remember forever. Based in the Hightop Hospitality Commissary Kitchen in Saint Paul, MN, the position offers part-time employment with a compensation ranging from $18.00 to $22.00 per hour, dependent on experience and skill level. This role requires approximately three days of work per week, with additional hours available during the busy peak event season from May through early November. The work schedule typically involves early morning shifts running through daytime hours, requiring availability on Fridays and Saturdays during peak season.

In this hands-on and fast-paced position, the Assistant Pastry Chef will work directly alongside the Executive Pastry Chef to produce a diverse array of baked goods, including elegant wedding cakes, delicate French macarons, profiteroles, tartlets, dessert shooters, and buttermilk biscuits. The role demands high standards of consistency, organization, and craftsmanship. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities to develop foundational pastry skills within a high-volume, professional kitchen environment.

The Assistant Pastry Chef will be responsible for preparing and baking a wide range of scratch-made pastries, desserts, and baked goods, assisting with the production of cakes, fillings, frostings, and plated desserts, and following recipes with exact precision. Additional duties include supporting ingredient preparation, portioning, inventory organization, packaging, labeling, and order preparation for events. Maintaining a clean, organized, and food-safe kitchen environment is paramount, as is effective collaboration with culinary and events teams to ensure the smooth execution of production timelines.

Ideal candidates will have at least two years of pastry or baking experience and a solid understanding of fundamental baking techniques. Attention to detail, the ability to follow recipes accurately, and a positive, team-oriented attitude are essential. The role also requires physical stamina, such as the ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds. The company values reliability, punctuality, and a willingness to learn and grow within the pastry field.

Working at Hightop Hospitality offers a supportive, team-focused environment with opportunities for hands-on training and skill development. Employees have the chance to engage in the creation of a wide variety of products, ranging from rustic baked goods to elegant desserts, providing both consistency of employment and seasonal variety. This role is perfect for individuals passionate about craftsmanship and consistency, who thrive in a dynamic kitchen environment and are eager to build a rewarding career in pastry and baking. Joining Hightop Hospitality means becoming part of a team dedicated to creating memorable experiences one dessert at a time.
