The Progressive Pulmonary Care Unit located on the G91 floor is a high-acuity 34-bed unit specializing in the management and care of patients with complex pulmonary conditions. This unit is uniquely positioned to deliver specialized care to individuals with severe respiratory issues including asthma, ventilator and tracheostomy management, high-flow oxygen therapy, BiPAP support, post-lung transplant recovery, and pulmonary hypertension treatment. Nurses and caregivers in this environment gain advanced clinical skills and expertise as they manage critically ill patients requiring complex interventions. Working in this specialized unit allows for continued professional development and preparation for future roles in similarly demanding settings such as intensive care units. Scheduled on a day shift from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., caregivers also work every second weekend along with two summer and two winter holiday shifts. This schedule offers a balanced but committed work life in an environment where teamwork and patient-centric care are paramount.
In this pivotal role, the caregiver not only provides direct patient care but also supervises and coordinates the clinical operations of the unit. Responsibilities include fostering seamless communication and collaboration between multidisciplinary teams across departments to ensure the highest quality of care. The caregiver acts as a key liaison for resolving operational patient care issues, regularly updating and consulting with Nurse Managers. Leadership duties encompass conducting ongoing clinical evaluations, offering constructive feedback to team members, initiating corrective actions when needed, and monitoring attendance and performance. The position also involves interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff, as well as preparing schedules to guarantee adequate coverage on all shifts. Active participation in quality improvement projects, research initiatives, and educational programs is crucial to driving continuous improvement. The caregiver additionally assumes Nurse Manager responsibilities in their absence, supporting both peer development through orientation and ongoing education services. This role is ideal for a nursing professional eager to advance their clinical and leadership skills within a dynamic and supportive healthcare setting.
