Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum seven years of experience in water plant operations and laboratory analysis
  • Valid State of Florida Driver's License, Class E or higher
  • Valid State of Florida certification as a Drinking Water Treatment Plant Operator, Class B or higher
  • Ability to perform light physical work including lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to traverse various job sites and city facilities
  • Availability to remain on call 24/7 for emergencies
  • Willingness to work in adverse environmental conditions including extreme weather and exposure to chemicals
  • Ability to operate computers and office machinery
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and follow detailed instructions

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in water plant operations and laboratory analysis
  • Valid State of Florida Driver's License, Class E or higher
  • Valid State of Florida certification as a Drinking Water Treatment Plant Operator, Class "B" or higher
  • Knowledge of water treatment processes, chemical and physical water analysis
  • Ability to operate modern office equipment and software including Microsoft Office
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to manage and train personnel
  • Proficiency in mathematical calculations related to water treatment operations

Job Duties

  • Provide technical information and maintain accurate records regarding water treatment and water quality
  • Resolve questions and complaints concerning water quality
  • Supervise employees in sample collection and review results to ensure compliance with DEP requirements
  • Direct and coordinate division activities and personnel, assign work programs, inspect work progress and completion
  • Assist with budget preparation and make policy and operational recommendations
  • Coordinate work activities with other divisions and departments
  • Inspect treatment plants and pumping stations for proper operation and ensure contractor compliance with standards
  • Train key personnel and assist in personnel administration
  • Prepare payroll and provide requisitions for supplies, equipment, and chemicals
  • Attend meetings with contractors, engineers, and management
  • Conduct public education seminars
  • Perform laboratory tests to assure water quality compliance
  • Submit reports to DEP, FDOH, and other agencies
  • Perform other work as assigned
