Job Description
BURGER KING is a globally recognized fast food restaurant chain, renowned for its high-quality, great-tasting, and affordable food options. Founded in 1954, it has grown to become the second largest fast food hamburger chain in the world, famous as the original HOME OF THE WHOPPER. The brand is committed to premium ingredients, signature recipes, and creating family-friendly dining experiences that have shaped its reputation for over five decades. Every day, BURGER KING serves more than 11 million guests across its worldwide locations, emphasizing consistent quality, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence.
The Assistant Manager (AM) at BURGER KING is a vital role within the restaurant’s management structure, functioning as the operations leader focused on driving profitability, enhancing guest service, developing people, and managing daily restaurant operations. Reporting directly to the Restaurant General Manager (RGM), the Assistant Manager supports all aspects of managing a single restaurant location, overseeing a team of 20-45 employees including Hourly Shift Coordinators and Team Members. This full-time position requires strong leadership skills and a hands-on approach to ensure the restaurant meets its financial targets and provides an exceptional customer experience.
The AM is responsible for multiple key areas to optimize restaurant performance. On the profitability front, the Assistant Manager manages inventory costs through daily, weekly, and monthly inspections, places and receives inventory orders, maintains a comprehensive list of restaurant assets, and ensures preventative maintenance of the facility and equipment is completed to company standards by coordinating with external vendors. Cash control and security are prioritized, with the AM ensuring all cash handling procedures, such as safe counting and cash drawer management, are strictly followed.
Guest satisfaction is a primary focus for the AM, who motivates and directs the team to consistently exceed guest expectations through accurate, fast, and friendly service in a clean environment. People development is another core responsibility, where the AM provides coaching and feedback to Shift Coordinators and Team Members to build their capabilities and enhance overall restaurant performance. This role requires the ability to inspire a team, foster a positive work environment, and uphold the company’s values.
Operational excellence is also critical. The Assistant Manager guides the restaurant team in efficient and accurate preparation and sale of food products, ensuring prompt delivery within established speed-of-service guidelines while maintaining operational and brand standards. Additionally, the AM must be ready to assume the duties of an Hourly Shift Coordinator as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to lead from the front.
The ideal candidate for the Assistant Manager position brings 1-2 years of quick service restaurant experience, with preferred management experience, and a foundational understanding of profit and loss interpretation to influence restaurant profitability. The role requires candidates to be at least 18 years old, hold a high school diploma or GED (with two years of college preferred), and display demonstrated leadership skills alongside a strong understanding of guest service principles. Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and the ability to work long or irregular shifts is essential to meet the operational needs of the restaurant. Overall, this position offers an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about restaurant management, who enjoy leading teams and driving business success in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
