Sedano's Supermarkets is a well-established grocery store chain known for providing quality products and excellent customer service to its community. Located at Store #22 - 5360 West 16th Ave., Hialeah, FL 33012, this part-time morning position offers candidates a chance to work in a dynamic retail and food service environment. Sedano's Supermarkets takes pride in its commitment to upholding high standards of safety, cleanliness, and customer satisfaction, with policies and procedures designed to maintain smooth store operations and a safe environment for all employees and customers. As part of a reputable and community-focused grocery retailer, employees are expected to align their performance with the company’s values and operational goals while following regulatory and company guidelines.
The role of Assistant Head Cook (Asistente de Cocina) at Sedano's Supermarkets involves preparing food that is sold by the pound or individual portions, ensuring high quality and customer satisfaction. The position demands a strong emphasis on food safety, hygiene, and efficient kitchen operations. Key responsibilities include assisting the Head Cook in menu planning and inventory management, preparing meats and vegetables according to recipes, and ensuring that food items are cooked and displayed timely for customers throughout the day. The Assistant Cook also maintains cleanliness and sanitation standards, adheres to safety protocols when handling hot foods and kitchen equipment, and actively contributes to a safe and organized work environment.
This job requires detailed attention to kitchen operations such as lighting gas ovens, checking for leaks, and managing extractors. Furthermore, the Assistant Cook plays a critical role in organizing pantry and refrigeration areas, verifying temperature controls, and ensuring that food safety and sanitation codes are strictly followed. Beyond food preparation, duties extend to equipment maintenance reporting, cleaning tasks, and participation in departmental meetings to promote teamwork and operational efficiency. The role also includes supporting new cook training, dishwashing, and end-of-day kitchen cleanup when necessary.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old with previous cooking experience and possess a current food safety training certificate that requires renewal every three years. Multilingual abilities, especially proficiency in both English and Spanish, are preferred due to the diverse customer base and the bilingual nature of the workplace. Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational aptitude, basic mathematics, and the capability to follow written and oral instructions are essential for success in this position.
Physically, the role demands considerable manual dexterity, the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move supplies, and work with kitchen equipment safely and efficiently. The work environment combines grocery store and kitchen settings with varying noise levels, exposure to hot and cold elements, and interaction with supervisors, employees, and customers. Sedano's Supermarkets values inclusivity and will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities.
Overall, the Assistant Head Cook position is vital for maintaining the high culinary standards and customer service for which Sedano's Supermarkets is known, offering a rewarding opportunity for those passionate about food preparation and teamwork in a fast-paced retail environment.
