Job Description
Columbia Hospitality, Inc. is a renowned national management and consulting company with over 25 years of expertise in delivering exceptional hospitality solutions. Their extensive portfolio spans award-winning hotels and resorts, premier residential communities, restaurants and bars, private and public golf clubs, conference centers, and distinctive venues. Known for their dedication to excellence, Columbia Hospitality has earned consistent recognition as one of the Top Companies to Work for in Washington by influential publications such as Seattle Business Magazine and Puget Sound Business Journal. This acclaim stems from their unwavering commitment to fostering a fun, dynamic, and nurturing work environment that empowers team members to thrive and deliver outstanding guest experiences.
The role at Columbia Hospitality is based at Outlook Inn, affectionately known as 'The Gem of The San Juan Islands,' located on Orcas Island. Established in 1888, Outlook Inn boasts a rich and vibrant history and provides guests with an authentic island experience. The property features the New Leaf Café, the finest dining establishment on the island, renowned for creating memorable events including weddings and special occasions. This role offers a unique opportunity to join a passionate and dedicated team of islanders who embody creativity, hard work, and a genuine love for hospitality.
The position offered is a leadership role responsible for managing the rooms division at the hotel, including overseeing housekeeping and front desk operations. The candidate will play a pivotal role in selecting, supervising, training, scheduling, disciplining, and counseling staff, thereby ensuring a motivated and high-performing team. Working closely with the General Manager, this role serves as a direct liaison to community organizations, city officials, industry associations, and public relations entities, fostering strong community ties and enhancing the property’s reputation.
Key responsibilities also include ensuring the implementation of all applicable standards, policies, and procedures across the departments to maintain operational excellence. The candidate will participate in preparing the annual operating budget and financial plans, working collaboratively with the General Manager to meet or exceed budgetary expectations. Furthermore, this role demands protecting and enhancing the value of the property through programs focused on maintenance, security, emergency preparedness, and capital improvements.
Analyzing feedback from team members and guests, the candidate will lead continuous improvement initiatives in processes and services, emphasizing customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. Acting as the People & Culture representative for the property, responsibilities extend to recruitment, hiring, onboarding, employee relations, leaves of absence, and workers compensation claims management in partnership with the P&C Business Partner.
Additional duties include organizing and reconciling financial records through manual and automated methods, ensuring internal control by monitoring guest ledgers, advance deposits, and related financial documents. Performing accounting tasks such as cash and check deposits, payments, and monthly petty cash reporting also form an essential component of the role.
With a salary range of $88,000 to $91,500 depending on experience, along with a cellphone allowance, incentive eligibility, and the opportunity to get paid daily, this role provides a competitive compensation package. Employees enjoy paid time off, holiday pay, comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, and HSA/FSA plans with employer contribution.
The company’s values-based culture fosters a sense of belonging and growth via culture add initiatives, referral bonuses, discounted lodging, dining, spa, golf, retail, and travel, plus volunteer and committee participation opportunities. Columbia Hospitality is committed to inclusion and diversity, with a strong emphasis on respect, honesty, accountability, enthusiasm, creativity, and a fun work environment.
