Job Description
Haggen is a well-established local neighborhood grocer with a rich history dating back to 1933 when Ben and Dorothy Haggen, along with Doug Clark, opened their first store in Bellingham, Washington. Over the past 80 years, Haggen has grown to become a trusted name in the grocery industry, known for its dedication to freshness, quality, and community support. The company prides itself on cultivating talented and dedicated associates who share its passion for delivering the freshest local products and genuine customer service. Haggen is not just a grocery store; it is a vital part of the local food economy, partnering with farmers, ranchers, fisheries, and local businesses to bring the best products to its community markets. This dedication extends to offering fresh produce, sustainable seafood, fresh meat, a scratch-made bakery, vibrant delicatessen options, and a wide range of organic, gluten-free, local, and specialty items.
The role of the Assistant Food Service Manager at Haggen is integral to the store's success in creating a welcoming and high-quality dining experience for guests. This position requires leading, developing, and motivating a team of food service crew members to ensure an exceptional destination experience for customers. The Assistant Food Service Manager is responsible for implementing the corporate food service program while adding their unique skills to enhance the fresh delicatessen product offerings at their location. Daily responsibilities include assembling, preparing, packaging, and merchandising self-service delicatessen products while engaging with guests to assist with product selection and sales. The role carries the critical responsibility of tracking sales, building attractive displays, stocking, and maintaining inventory levels to ensure product availability and freshness.
Food safety and sanitation are paramount in this role, requiring the Assistant Food Service Manager to ensure full compliance with all relevant standards and actively participate in cleaning and sanitizing food preparation areas, tools, and equipment. The position also demands obtaining a food handler's permit to maintain compliance with food safety regulations. The job requires availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, which are among the busiest times, and involves physical tasks such as reaching overhead, bending, twisting, pulling, pushing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and standing for extended periods.
Haggen offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $22.00 to $26.00 per hour, depending on position and experience, with flexible full-time or part-time schedules available. The company is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace environment, providing career advancement and growth opportunities, and supporting work-life balance through flexible scheduling. Employees at Haggen enjoy a variety of benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance starting at just 16 hours per week, life-balanced schedules, premium pay for Sundays, holidays, and night shifts, a 10% family discount on groceries, retirement plans, paid time off, and training provided on site. This position is on-site and requires a high school degree or equivalent. Haggen values its employees as vital contributors to the company’s mission of serving customers with freshness, quality, and community care.
