The Assistant Director position at RWJBarnabas Health is located in Mountainside, New Jersey, within the Referral Development department. This salaried, full-time role is scheduled on a day shift with a competitive salary range of $125,012 to $162,516 per year. The primary objective of this position is to drive growth and development of new and existing inpatient referral sources to meet the hospital’s volume and census goals. The Assistant Director will oversee strategic initiatives aimed at expanding referrals and admissions by identifying new opportunities, developing comprehensive execution plans, and cultivating strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
In this leadership role, the Assistant Director is responsible for managing the Inpatient PreAdmissions and Referral Development teams, ensuring compliance with all relevant policies, laws, and regulations. The individual will work closely with physicians, case managers, insurance companies, and other referral sources to facilitate a smooth and efficient referral and admission process, positively influencing key leaders while delivering insightful communication. Key responsibilities include traveling to acute care facilities, conducting presentations, and participating in conferences to promote the organization’s programs and services effectively.
The role requires a highly dynamic approach to outreach, market analysis, and stakeholder engagement, including designing innovative strategies to increase inpatient referrals and expand the reach of Childrens Specialized Hospital to new providers. The Assistant Director must also address potential delays or friction points impacting referrals by collaborating with internal customer service, operations, and marketing teams. This position demands excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to analyze market competition, and experience in managing multifaceted environments such as hospital pediatric floors, office settings, community events, and family engagement.
Candidates for this position should possess a registered nursing license (RN) and a Bachelor of Science in a related field, with a master’s degree considered an asset. The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years of experience in pediatric rehab, referral development, or pediatrics with a preference for MedSurg experience, along with management experience valued highly. Familiarity with private and government payors is preferred, as is demonstrated excellence in customer service and communication. - in depth experience and knowledge of above for at least 3 to 5 years
Job Duties
- Oversee, design, develop and implement strategic initiatives to achieve organization volume goals
- identify new growth opportunities and develop appropriate plans for execution, including all relevant internal and external stakeholder consultation
- identify referral opportunities, develop strategies, and implement with key decision makers in order to drive referrals and admissions
- develop and maintain key leader relationships, both internally and externally
- positively interact with and influence key leaders to impart program knowledge and strategic direction
- maintain high level of communication and feedback with both internal and external key stakeholders to ensure appropriate alignment of strategy to in field deliverables
- conduct in services to groups of personnel representing referral sources, insurance companies and others as indicated
- collaborate on new and or expanded service and program launches, including identifying market potential
- create innovative approaches to target referral sources to promote enthusiasm for CSH
- provide for a smooth and efficient preadmission admission process from referral and to admission
- develop and implement a system wide outreach strategy in accordance with the organizational plan
- expand the reach of Childrens Specialized Hospital to new providers
- increase numbers of inpatient referrals from providers and referral sources
