The role available—Special Events Leadership Position—is a vital part of Augusta University’s Office of Protocol and Special Events. This leadership position holds significant responsibility for guiding event-related strategies, policies, and operations university-wide. Reporting directly to the Director of the Office of Protocol and Special Events, the successful candidate will provide innovative solutions and oversee the careful planning and execution of major university events. This includes managing committees, developing and controlling event budgets, and coordinating operational and logistical details to ensure flawless execution. The position demands a commitment to maintaining the university's high standards for branding, quality, and appropriateness in all events that represent the institution’s exceptional image and values. This role works collaboratively with university leadership to ensure all events align with the strategic priorities of the President's Office, contributing not only to the operational success of events but also to the broader mission of Augusta University. Key components of this position’s responsibilities include managing the Special Events team, serving as a liaison among various stakeholders, and carrying out the annual 1828 Suite program in partnership with athletics and alumni organizations. The role favors candidates experienced in higher education or nonprofit organizations with a demonstrated ability in large-scale event management, staff supervision, and stakeholder relations. This position requires leadership skills, excellent organizational and communication capabilities, and the ability to foster collaboration across departments. It offers a competitive salary starting at $68,500 annually within Pay Band B13 and includes a comprehensive benefits package addressing health, dental, life insurance, retirement plans, vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays. The successful hire will need to engage in ongoing professional development to stay abreast of best practices in higher education protocol and event management, further enhancing the university's standards of excellence.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- minimum of 3 years professional experience in higher education or non-profit organization with focus on large-scale event planning or 5 or more years experience/training in large event planning or similar experience
- ability to work days Monday through Friday
- work outside normal business hours as needed
- successful background check
- satisfactory consumer credit check
- ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment regarding sensitive information
- eligibility to drive Augusta University vehicle if required
- proof of completed academic degrees and transcripts if applicable
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- minimum of 3 years of professional experience in higher education or non-profit organization with a focus on large-scale event planning
- excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills
- strong attention to detail and analytical abilities
- leadership and staff management experience
- ability to foster collaboration across multiple stakeholders
- preferred Master's degree
- 5 or more years of experience in higher education or non-profit event planning, staff management and stakeholder relations
Job Duties
- Provide operational leadership and day-to-day oversight for the Special Events team
- manage multiple complex projects under strict deadlines
- serve as liaison between university leadership, internal departments, and external partners
- deliver strategic direction and oversight for resource allocation and budget management
- hire, train, and supervise two Special Event Coordinators
- plan, promote, and execute the annual 1828 Suite program
- establish and maintain consistent event standards aligned with branding and strategic initiatives
