The university emphasizes student success through its holistic approach to academic and personal development, integrating community engagement, cultural awareness, and innovative programs to prepare students for meaningful careers and lifelong learning. CSUDH is renowned for its dedication to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and it strives to create a supportive and welcoming atmosphere for all members of its community.
The university's Health, Wellness, & Recreation Center (HWRC) is a pivotal part of the Student Affairs division, offering comprehensive programs and services designed to promote well-being and enhance the student experience. The HWRC is a state-of-the-art facility slated to open in 2026, providing a range of indoor and outdoor spaces dedicated to health, wellness, fitness, recreation, and social activities. It serves as a hub for students to engage in physical activities, develop healthy habits, and connect with peers while supporting their academic success and personal growth.
The Assistant Director of Operations and Recreation Programs at the HWRC is a leadership role within the Student Affairs department, classified as an Administrator II level position under Management Personnel Plan (MPP). This full-time, at-will position is integral to the daily operations and strategic development of the HWRC. The anticipated monthly salary range is $7,800 to $8,000, commensurate with experience. The role requires a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of facility events and programming.
Reporting to the Director of the HWRC, the Assistant Director of Operations and Recreation Programs provides critical leadership and oversight to ensure the smooth operation and vibrant programming of the center. Key responsibilities include managing daily facility logistics, supervision of staff, coordinating event operations, and overseeing recreation programming across diverse areas such as Hospitality, Outdoor Adventures, Intramurals, Youth Camps, and Event Operations. The role collaborates closely with the Assistant Director of Aquatics and Fitness to maximize the utilization of programmable spaces and aligns with University Facility Operations for maintenance and custodial support.
This position is vital in fostering an integrated model of health and well-being that advances student development, enhances the guest experience, and supports revenue-generating initiatives within the center. The Assistant Director plays a central role in ensuring adherence to risk management protocols, emergency action plans, and standard operating procedures while facilitating a welcoming, engaging, and student-centered environment. Additionally, the role involves budgeting, forecasting, administrative reporting, and program evaluation to sustain operational excellence.
Candidates for this position will thrive in a collaborative, dynamic environment and possess strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for recreation and wellness. A commitment to inclusivity and student-focused service is essential for success in this role. The university emphasizes equity and diversity and encourages applicants who can contribute to an inclusive campus culture to apply.
