Job Description
Clark University, located in Worcester, MA, is a forward-thinking institution dedicated to fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community. Known for its commitment to student success and engagement, Clark offers a supportive environment where diversity of thought, background, and experience is celebrated and promoted. As a comprehensive university, Clark University emphasizes strong student involvement through various campus traditions, leadership programs, and community engagement initiatives designed to enhance the overall collegiate experience. The Division of Student Success at Clark is focused on creating spaces and opportunities that promote belonging, identity development, and leadership among students, aligning with the university's core values of equity, inclusion, and access.
The Assistant Director for Programming and Events is a key role within the Division of Student Success, reporting to the Associate Director for Student Leadership and Engagement. This full-time exempt position offers a competitive salary range of $54,800 to $60,250 and plays a pivotal role in coordinating and managing a wide range of student events and programs. The Assistant Director supports campus-wide initiatives and recognized student organizations by facilitating event planning, execution, and assessment processes that align with the university's educational mission and commitment to inclusive student-centered learning.
This role entails leadership and oversight of signature campus traditions and SLICE (Student Leadership, Identity, and Community Engagement) programs such as Welcome Week, Senior Week, Family & Friends Weekend, and other key events that foster community spirit and student involvement. The incumbent will cultivate strategic programming that bridges student organizations, campus partners, and institutional missions to create an integrated and holistic student experience. Emphasizing continuous program improvement, the Assistant Director utilizes data from assessments, participation trends, and student feedback to evolve programming and ensure it addresses diverse student needs, including supporting disengaged or underserved populations.
In addition to programming, the position is responsible for managing the event lifecycle for recognized student organizations, collaborating with departments such as Facilities, University Events, Dining and Catering, Athletics and Recreation, and University Police to ensure seamless policy adherence and event execution. The Assistant Director also plays a vital advisory role to student leaders by helping them develop skills in event planning, risk management, budgeting, and inclusive engagement.
Further responsibilities include supporting annual club registration and oversight, maintaining information accuracy within university technology platforms like the Engage Platform, and strengthening relationships with key student organizations to ensure cohesive programming and engagement. The position demands leadership skills to supervise student employees and para-professional staff, fostering a culture of inclusiveness and growth.
Aligned with Clark University's dedication to student retention and success, the Assistant Director also contributes to university-wide efforts to promote belonging and identity development. This involves participating on committees, developing assessment plans, and championing the university's values around diversity, equity, and inclusion to ensure the co-curricular experience supports all students’ academic and personal growth. The role requires flexibility, including evenings and weekends, to support event schedules and campus activities effectively. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a professional passionate about student development, program innovation, and community engagement in a dynamic university setting.
