Job Description
The City Hall Older Adult Center (CHOAC) is one of New York City's largest and most well-respected centers dedicated to serving older adults. As a cornerstone institution in the community, CHOAC provides nutritious meals, essential supportive services, and a wide array of engaging activities designed to improve the quality of life for older adults from diverse backgrounds throughout the city. Its reputation as a model program is grounded in its commitment to delivering high-quality, high-volume services that are culturally and linguistically responsive to the complex needs of its participants. The center enjoys a strong public profile and has become a trusted resource for older adults seeking social connection, wellness opportunities, and nutritional support. CHOAC operates under Hamilton-Madison House, a recognized nonprofit organization fostering community development and well-being through various programmatic offerings.
We are currently seeking a dedicated Assistant Cook to join our energetic food service team. This is a critical role that supports the preparation and delivery of congregate meals which meet the stringent standards set forth by the New York City Department for the Aging (DFTA) and the Department of Health. The Assistant Cook's responsibilities include assisting in daily food preparation, cooking, and packaging grab-and-go meals while contributing to menu planning efforts with a focus on culturally appropriate and nutritious meal options. This role also involves maintaining inventory, ensuring cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and dining areas, and assisting with food cost reporting to support budgetary compliance. The Assistant Cook will play an essential part in helping to ensure the health, safety, and satisfaction of our older adult participants by delivering high-quality meals in a timely and safe manner.
This role offers a weekday schedule from Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with a total of 35 work hours per week. The hourly wage is $20.50, and the position comes with a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid vacation and sick days, personal days, and paid holidays. This opportunity is ideal for individuals passionate about community service, nutrition, and senior care, who enjoy working in a collaborative environment with a mission-driven organization. At CHOAC, employees are valued for their contributions to the well-being of older adults and benefit from a supportive work culture that prioritizes employee health and professional development. Hamilton-Madison House is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering diversity and inclusion within its workforce.
