Job Description
Ross Stores, Inc. is a leading off-price retail chain with over 2,200 stores across the United States, known for delivering a wide array of high-quality brand-name and on-trend merchandise at extraordinary savings to its diverse customer base. Established as a Fortune 500 company with revenues of $22.8 billion in 2025, Ross Stores has built a strong reputation for providing customers with a unique treasure hunt shopping experience, combining value and excitement. The corporate headquarters are located in Dublin, California, complemented by three strategic buying offices in New York City, Los Angeles, and Boston, as well as eight distribution centers nationwide. Ross is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment that emphasizes continuous learning opportunities, career growth, and community involvement, reflecting its core values of teamwork, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The role of Area Supervisor at Ross is a pivotal leadership position within the Store Leadership team, tasked with overseeing a specific area of the store while also managing overall store operations in the absence of the Store Manager. This full-time role is designed for individuals who thrive in a vibrant retail environment and are passionate about leading teams to deliver exceptional customer service and operational excellence. Area Supervisors are responsible for opening and closing the store, supervising associates to ensure productivity and adherence to company standards, and maintaining a pleasant, safe, and easy-to-navigate shopping environment for customers. The position demands keen attention to merchandise presentation, store cleanliness, and operational task execution, aligning with the company’s commitment to high standards and customer satisfaction.
Key responsibilities include maintaining a safe and secure environment for associates and customers alike, through vigilance, security oversight, and emergency preparedness. Customer service is at the forefront of this role, requiring the ability to foster a respectful, courteous, and professional atmosphere. Area Supervisors are also custodians of the Ross brand, expected to embody and promote the company’s values, maintain professional appearance standards, and uphold merchandising excellence throughout the store.
On the operational side, Area Supervisors manage merchandise receiving, stocking, and presentation according to established guidelines. They oversee loss prevention programs by ensuring the execution of best practices and safeguarding company assets. The role extends to front end supervision, including overseeing checkout efficiency, cash handling protocols, and associate training. Additionally, Area Supervisors ensure the fitting rooms are well-maintained and compliant with company policies regarding merchandise tagging and returns.
Administrative duties form part of the role and include cash handling, payroll administration, scheduling oversight, and adherence to all company policies and procedural standards. The successful Area Supervisor will demonstrate strong leadership competencies such as managing work processes effectively, business acumen, prioritization, talent building, collaboration, communication, and accountability.
Ross values its associates and provides an environment that supports their growth and success, with opportunities for career advancement within a company that is continuously expanding and evolving. Joining Ross means becoming part of a dynamic team that celebrates diversity and is committed to making a positive impact on both employees and the communities they serve. This role is ideal for candidates with prior supervisory experience, excellent communication skills, and a passion for retail operations and customer service excellence.
