Job Description

Ross Stores, Inc. is a premier off-price retail chain with over 2,200 stores across the United States. Renowned for delivering a dynamic shopping experience characterized by high-quality brands and on-trend merchandise at extraordinary savings, Ross has cultivated a loyal customer base. The company’s success is grounded in its commitment to a fun and exciting 'treasure hunt' shopping atmosphere that encourages customers to explore and discover new deals each visit.

Ross prides itself on a culture that values its people. The company emphasizes core values such as success, career growth, teamwork, diversity, equality, and inclusion. Employees at Ross not only contribute to the company’s expanding footprint but also experience a supportive environment focused on individual and collective growth. Ross is a Fortune 500 company with its corporate headquarters in Dublin, CA, and additional buying offices strategically located in New York City, Los Angeles, and Boston. The company also operates eight distribution centers nationwide, underscoring its expansive reach and operational expertise. Ross reported revenues of $22.8 billion in 2025, highlighting its market dominance and commitment to delivering value to customers and employees alike.

The Area Supervisor role at Ross is a crucial leadership position within the store environment. Area Supervisors are tasked with overseeing the operations of a specific designated area within the store while also serving as the Manager on Duty, responsible for the overall supervision and smooth functioning of the store. This full-time position demands strong leadership, operational knowledge, and a customer-centric approach.

Area Supervisors are instrumental in creating a safe, friendly, and easy-to-navigate store environment. Key responsibilities include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, and ensuring the store’s presentation aligns with Ross's high standards. They actively manage merchandise displays, maintain cleanliness, and deliver exceptional customer service. Their leadership extends to safety and loss prevention practices, making sure that all safety protocols are followed and the store remains secure for customers and staff.

In addition to daily supervisory duties, Area Supervisors manage front-end operations, fitting rooms, and stockroom organization. They ensure that all merchandise processing—from receiving to sales floor presentation—is executed efficiently and to company standards. They also handle administrative tasks such as cash pulls, bank deposits, payroll administration, and scheduling, supporting the store manager in maintaining operational excellence.

This role requires a hands-on leader who can motivate their team, maintain effective communication, and embody the Ross brand's professionalism and values at all times. The ideal candidate will have prior customer service and supervisory experience, proficiency in retail POS systems, and excellent verbal communication skills. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is essential.

Ross values diversity, equity, and inclusion and strives to create an environment where all employees feel respected and empowered. The company is an equal employment opportunity employer, dedicated to attracting, hiring, and developing a strong, diverse workforce. Employees benefit from continuous learning opportunities and a supportive workplace culture that promotes success and career advancement.

By joining Ross as an Area Supervisor, candidates become part of a vibrant retail team that values talent, fosters growth, and is committed to delivering an exceptional experience to every customer.
