The Area Mechanic - Kitchen Tech role at Walt Disney World Resort is a specialized field service position responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing commercial kitchen equipment across the property. This role requires expertise in multiple technical areas, including plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and electrical controls. The technician must be proficient in handling sophisticated kitchen equipment such as soda and beer drink systems, gas-fired appliances, and refrigeration units. Daily responsibilities include responding to maintenance requests throughout the parks and resorts, performing preventative and corrective maintenance, and ensuring that all kitchen equipment operates safely and efficiently.

Working in this role involves hands-on use of various specialized tools such as multimeters, refrigerant gauges, and hand tools, alongside strict adherence to safety protocols when dealing with chemicals and personal protective equipment. The position demands physical capabilities, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and the agility to work in elevated or confined spaces. Communication skills and proficiency with office software and mobile devices are essential for documenting maintenance activities and coordinating with team members. Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in troubleshooting
  • Experience with commercial kitchen repair and maintenance
  • Knowledgeable with CO2 systems including soda and beer drink systems
  • Extensive knowledge in electrical controls for commercial kitchen equipment
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in standard office software programs and mobile electronic devices

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Troubleshoot, calibrate and adjust pilots, thermostats and burners, transformers, controls, relays, heaters, elements, switches and controls on kitchen equipment
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of commercial kitchen equipment
  • Respond to trouble tickets within areas of WDW Parks and Resorts
  • Use tools of the trade such as multimeter, refrigerant gauges, charging charts, hand tools
  • Handle cleaning chemicals and supplies safely
  • Use additional personal protective equipment including face shields, goggles, and refillable hand sanitizers
  • Work in elevated platforms and confined spaces as required throughout resort property
