Job Description
Community Health Center, Inc. (CHC) is a leading nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive primary medical, dental, and behavioral health services across Connecticut, Colorado, and California. With a mission to improve health outcomes for special and vulnerable populations, CHC delivers over 600,000 patient visits annually through its network of primary care hubs and community clinics. Recognized as a federally qualified health center and patient-centered medical home by key accrediting bodies such as HRSA, the Joint Commission, and NCQA, CHC stands at the forefront of healthcare innovation and quality standards. Additionally, CHC operates the Weitzman Institute, a nationally acclaimed research entity dedicated to healthcare practice transformation, specializing in vulnerable populations. The organization has also developed pioneering subsidiaries including the National Nurse Practitioner Residency and Fellowship Training Consortium, the National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement, and ConferMed, all focused on advancing healthcare training and technology.
The AmeriCorps Member role of Special Events Coordinator within CHC's Healthy Communities program offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to public health initiatives aimed at vulnerable communities throughout Connecticut. This part-time position, based in Middletown at the Weitzman Building, entails a one-year service commitment from September 8, 2026, through August 31, 2027, with a minimum of 33 service hours per week totaling 1700 hours across the program year. Members receive a $25,000 stipend distributed bi-weekly and are eligible for a $7,395 education award upon successful completion of the term. This AmeriCorps role is not a traditional staff position but rather a service opportunity pending full compliance with AmeriCorps program standards.
In this role, the Special Events Coordinator will be instrumental in fostering community cohesion and promoting health awareness. Responsibilities include conducting patient health education workshops and monitoring related data, managing patient engagement activities via electronic health records, and coordinating outreach efforts by maintaining a comprehensive calendar of health education events across CHC departments and affiliated community sites. The coordinator will collaborate closely with communications teams to create engaging content for social media and digital platforms, enabling effective promotion of health education programs and events.
The position demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Ideal candidates possess a positive, energetic approach to work, enjoy engaging with varied populations, and demonstrate the initiative to work independently while contributing effectively within teams. This role also includes logistical oversight of event planning activities such as client registration, supply management, and venue coordination, ensuring seamless execution of outreach initiatives.
Candidates with relevant background in public health, communications, or public relations fields, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet applications, will find this role well-aligned with their skills. Bilingual Spanish/English abilities and experience with various social media and marketing platforms are preferred, enhancing the capacity to reach diverse communities effectively. The Special Events Coordinator will participate in both internal and community meetings and may travel between CHC sites within the state, reinforcing CHC's commitment to accessible healthcare and comprehensive community support throughout Connecticut.
