Job Description
Lewis Barbecue Atlanta is a renowned restaurant specializing in authentic Texas-style barbecue. Known for its commitment to traditional cooking methods and exceptional flavor, Lewis Barbecue has established itself as a culinary destination in Atlanta. The restaurant is dedicated to serving high-quality smoked meats crafted using time-honored techniques and 100% all-wood fires. This approach ensures a unique and memorable barbecue experience that stays true to Texas roots.
As a full-time Pit Cook at Lewis Barbecue Atlanta, you will have the rare and exciting opportunity to master the art of barbecue on traditional 1000-gallon offset smokers. This role requires passion, dedication, and a serious interest in craft and consistency. Working with these massive smokers, you will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining live wood fires, managing temperature and smoke to achieve perfect results every time. The position demands a strong team-oriented mindset and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment.
The Pit Cook role involves preparing a variety of signature proteins, including brisket, pork ribs, turkey, pork shoulder, sausage, prime rib, pastrami, and daily specials. Each cut requires precise attention to detail and adherence to food safety standards. Maintaining cleanliness, organization, and efficiency within the workspace is essential to ensure smooth kitchen operations and high-quality food output.
Lewis Barbecue Atlanta offers a structured schedule with four 10-hour shifts per week, allowing for a healthy work-life balance with fixed days off. The early shift from 3:00 AM to 1:00 PM means you will start the day with preparation and smoking, enabling the team to deliver fresh barbecue to customers. The consistent schedule provides stability and predictability, beneficial for planning personal time.
This role is perfect for someone who is self-motivated and career-oriented, with a genuine interest in developing expertise in authentic Texas barbecue. While previous experience in barbecue or high-volume kitchens is a plus, Lewis Barbecue values commitment and a willingness to learn above all. The company fosters a supportive and tight-knit team culture, encouraging collaboration and mutual respect among its crew members.
Starting pay is $19 per hour, with a structured benefits package that includes a $300 monthly employer contribution toward health insurance after 60 days, 401(k) with company match, paid time off after one year, employee discounts, and paid training. Lewis Barbecue is committed to inclusivity and encourages individuals with a criminal record to apply, emphasizing equal opportunity employment.
Join Lewis Barbecue Atlanta and become part of a passionate team dedicated to bringing true Texas barbecue culture to the Atlanta community. This is not just a job but a chance to grow in your culinary career while working alongside seasoned professionals who cherish the craft of barbecue.
