The Aisles Online Curbside Runner role is a vital part of Hy-Vee’s growing eCommerce division, specifically within the Aisles Online department. This position is crucial in helping provide a seamless online shopping experience for customers who use Hy-Vee’s curbside pickup service. The primary function of the Curbside Runner is to assist with supplementary tasks that support the online curbside shopping process. This includes transporting customer orders from the command center to the pickup lane, ensuring orders are properly staged and maintained at the appropriate temperature, and assisting customers directly by providing friendly, efficient service.

The role requires working closely with Aisles Online Service Managers and other store management personnel, including Store Directors and Assistant Managers, to ensure that the curbside operation runs smoothly. The Curbside Runner is responsible for upholding Hy-Vee’s high standards in customer interaction by being courteous, attentive, and efficient. The ideal candidate exhibits patience, pride in their work, and a genuine interest in helping customers have the best possible shopping experience.

This position is generally non-exempt and may require working night and weekend shifts to accommodate the operating hours of the curbside service. Physical stamina and the ability to perform medium work involving lifting objects up to 50 pounds are essential due to the manual nature of the job. The role utilizes various equipment such as Zebra scanners, pallet jacks, and electronic scales, so familiarity with technology and an aptitude for troubleshooting is beneficial.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Ability to perform medium work involving lifting or carrying objects up to 50 pounds
Ability to stand, walk, lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds frequently
Ability to perform physical activities including lifting, stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions
Ability to see detail at near range with or without correction
Ability to compose original correspondence, follow technical manuals, evaluate technical data and advise people
Ability to interview to obtain basic information and guide people to provide basic direction
Commitment to customer service excellence
Night and weekend shifts required

Job Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Proficient usage of mobile device technology and technology troubleshooting

Job Duties

Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store
Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee’s designated department or elsewhere in the store
Makes an effort to learn customers’ names and to address them by name whenever possible
Assists customers by escorting them to the products they’re looking for, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests, performing other tasks in every way possible to enhance the shopping experience
Transports totes from command center to pickup lane
Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines
Reports to work when scheduled and on time
Upon gathering orders, place in storage at proper temperature and promptly retrieve from storage prior to customer’s arrival
Ensures products maintain proper temperature through the entire process
Gathers and stages orders in holding area for pick-up
Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required
