Job Description
Air and Marine Operations (AMO) is a specialized division within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), committed to safeguarding the United States through advanced aviation and marine law enforcement operations. AMO’s team members are highly trained pilots and law enforcement officers who undertake critical missions to detect, deter, and prevent illegal activities such as smuggling, terrorism, and unauthorized entry into the country. AMO prides itself on fostering a professional culture marked by camaraderie, pride, and dedication to public safety and national security.
AMO offers exciting, full-time career opportunities for Pilots interested in law enforcement as Air Interdiction Agents (AIAs). These agents play a vital role in operating aircraft in complex and challenging environments to support interdiction efforts against threats like terrorists, contraband, and illicit activities along U.S. borders. With multiple duty locations primarily in the Southeast, Southwest, and NASOC UAS regions, AIAs have a dynamic work environment that requires adaptability and a strong commitment to the mission.
The Air Interdiction Agent position offers competitive federal pay and comprehensive benefits, including specialized salary adjustments for duty location, law enforcement availability pay, recruitment incentives, and retention bonuses. New hires may receive a one-time recruitment incentive upon successful completion of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy and a service agreement. The career path includes grade progressions from GS-11 to GS-12 and GS-13, with automatic promotions possible after completing one year at each level, subject to supervisor approval.
As an Air Interdiction Agent, you will conduct air patrols, surveillance, and pursuits to interdict smuggled contraband via land vehicles, aircraft, or vessels. You will be responsible for monitoring suspicious behaviors, gathering and analyzing tactical and strategic intelligence, and contributing to search and rescue operations and humanitarian missions when required. This role demands advanced flying skills in diverse, often adverse conditions, and the ability to make swift, accurate decisions to support law enforcement objectives.
Successful candidates typically have experience piloting aircraft as Pilot-in-Command or in other leadership roles, possess FAA Commercial or ATP certifications, and meet rigorous flight hour and medical clearance requirements. Additional qualifications include being a U.S. citizen, fulfilling residency prerequisites, and adhering to the age limit mandated for federal law enforcement officers. The Air Interdiction Agent role requires completion of specialized training and may involve travel based on operational needs.
The application process for this prestigious law enforcement aviation role includes submitting an applicant checklist and resume to AMO recruiters, applying through USAJOBS, or utilizing airline application platforms. Interested individuals are encouraged to opt into CBP’s talent repository for ongoing recruitment updates and career development opportunities. AMO values diversity, specialized expertise, and dedication to a mission that protects the nation’s borders through cutting-edge aviation enforcement strategies. Joining AMO as an Air Interdiction Agent means becoming part of a respected organization committed to excellence, service, and teamwork in protecting the United States.
