Job Description
The University of Southern California (USC) is a leading private research university known for its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and fostering global leaders across various disciplines. Within USC, the School of Cinematic Arts (SCA) holds a distinguished reputation as one of the premier institutions focused on film, television, and digital media education. The school has a rich history and vibrant community of students, faculty, alumni, and industry professionals dedicated to advancing cinematic storytelling and entertainment technology. SCA is now preparing to celebrate its 100th Anniversary, which marks a century of excellence and impact in the entertainment industry and the arts.
The Advancement Events and Programming Coordinator is a newly created, critical role within the SCA Advancement office. This position is designed to support the school’s increasing need for sophisticated event coordination and operational integration that enhances the impact of its events and fundraising campaigns. As SCA embarks on a significant fundraising campaign and a series of celebratory activities for its centennial, the Advancement Events and Programming Coordinator will play an essential part in ensuring the success and smooth execution of these initiatives.
This role requires a dynamic professional with experience in event planning and talent management, particularly within the entertainment sector. The Coordinator will be responsible for managing a broad range of logistical elements related to multiple high-profile annual campus events, such as USC Orientation Week, Trojan Family Weekend, and Commencement. Additionally, this position oversees donor-related special events, including Endowed Chair and Building Dedications, which play a vital role in sustaining philanthropic relationships. The Coordinator will also manage bookings for ongoing SCA Community screenings and conversations, including managing high-profile guest visits for specific courses such as the 466 and 467 classes.
The position extends beyond on-campus activities, encompassing the planning and execution of Advancement-related programming involving donors and sponsors, including some off-campus events. The Coordinator will also support the Offices of the Dean and Advancement on special events tied to the 100th Anniversary celebration, helping to craft meaningful experiences that strengthen connections with USC’s key constituents.
Ideal candidates will have a nuanced understanding of the School of Cinematic Arts, its alumni network, and the entertainment industry. They should possess exceptional oral and written communication skills, a detail-oriented mindset, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal skills and a capacity to collaborate effectively with various internal and external stakeholders, including donors, faculty, staff, sponsors, and high-profile guests, are critical to success. Experience working with external event sponsors and familiarity with event management platforms are highly preferred.
The University values candidates who can adapt to its dynamic culture, demonstrate dedication to the institution’s mission, and uphold professional standards in event management and donor relations. This position offers an hourly wage ranging from $33.85 to $37.78 and includes opportunities for professional growth within one of the nation’s most influential cinematic arts institutions. The Advancement Events and Programming Coordinator will be an integral part of a team that advances the School’s prominence and philanthropic success through meticulously planned events and meaningful community engagement.
