Founded in 1988, the firm has grown into a multi-strategy investment powerhouse that combines sophisticated quantitative techniques, advanced technology, and fundamental insights to pursue consistent, attractive returns. The D. E. Shaw group operates across various financial markets globally and has established a reputation for its collaborative culture, intellectual rigor, and commitment to diversity and inclusion. Headquartered in New York City, the firm employs a diverse workforce of talented professionals from various disciplines including finance, technology, and administration.
The Administration team at the D. E. Shaw group plays a vital role in supporting the firm’s daily operations, focusing on delivering seamless execution of food services and event logistics within the Midtown New York office. This team is integral to maintaining smooth event operations, facilitating internal gatherings, and ensuring that conference rooms and event spaces are meticulously prepared and managed. The role of the administrative associate within this team offers an exciting opportunity to be involved in a variety of hands-on administrative and event-related tasks in a dynamic and engaging environment.
This position is a six-month assignment based in New York (Midtown), with the potential for a high-performing associate to be considered for full-time employment at the firm. The role requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual who can efficiently handle multiple responsibilities, including event planning support, vendor coordination, and onsite event execution. The associate will collaborate closely with the events manager and other team members to ensure that all events run smoothly, that catering orders are accurately placed and tracked, and that spaces are properly set up and broken down.
In addition to event logistics, the role involves providing backup coverage at the reception desk, assisting with ad-hoc facilities tasks, and maintaining thorough records of orders and receipts. Occasionally, the associate may need to travel offsite for events or venue visits, which adds variety and exposure to different aspects of event coordination. Flexibility to support events outside of standard hours and travel to nearby firm offices or venues is also required.
The expected annual base salary for this position ranges from $70,000 to $80,000, reflecting the importance of this role within the firm. The compensation package includes overtime pay for hours worked beyond 40 per week and benefits such as medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program. This comprehensive package highlights the firm’s commitment to employee well-being and work-life balance.
Joining the D. E. Shaw group means becoming part of a forward-thinking company that values excellence, professionalism, and a collaborative spirit. The administrative associate position is ideal for someone with experience in corporate administrative support, particularly in events management, catering, or hospitality, who is eager to contribute to a supportive team and grow within a prestigious organization. This role offers valuable experience, career growth opportunities, and a chance to work in a vibrant environment where administrative functions are recognized as critical to the firm’s success.
