The role of the Activity Coordinator within this program is a vital and dynamic position aimed at providing engaging activity therapy to maintain and improve the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of frail and disabled adults. As an Activity Coordinator, you will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and implementing a monthly activity program that balances purposeful activities catering to diverse participant needs and interests encompassing social, intellectual, cultural, emotional, physical, and spiritual dimensions. This position requires close collaboration with other staff members to integrate educational and therapeutic groups into the activity schedule, ensuring optimal use of facility resources and offering a comprehensive and balanced daily program. You will lead group activities and assist participants as needed with feeding, ambulation, and toileting, demonstrating sensitivity to their health status, lifestyle, ethnicity, religious affiliations, and personal preferences. Additionally, the role involves liaising with community resources to supplement activity offerings and encouraging participants' engagement with local senior center activities. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two year degree in recreational therapy or related field or equivalent experience
- Two years experience in social or health related services with frail or disabled adults
- At least two years supervisory experience
- Physical ability to lift at least 50 pounds and assist disabled adults
- Willingness to obtain required health certifications and permits
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Dependability in attendance
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team
- Basic computer skills preferred
Job Qualifications
- Two year degree in recreational therapy or related field
- Two additional years of related experience may be substituted for degree
- Two years experience in social or health related services working with frail or disabled adults
- At least two years supervisory experience
- Physical ability to assist disabled participants with transferring and ambulating
- Willingness to obtain a yearly TB test, statement of good health, food handlers permit, Series B Hepatitis test and CPR certification
- Ability to work cooperatively as a team member
- Computer experience preferred
- Dependability in attendance
Job Duties
- Participate with other staff in the development of each participant's individual treatment plan, evaluation of participant progress and planning for discharge of participant
- Oversee the coordination and implementation of the monthly activity program
- Integrate educational and therapy groups offered by other staff with the activity program to make maximum use of time, facility space and to provide an appropriate balance of daily program activities
- Plan a balance of purposeful activities that meet participants' interrelated needs and interests (social, intellectual, cultural, emotional, physical, and spiritual), taking into consideration individual differences
- Responsible for obtaining resources from the community to supplement the activity programs
- Lead group activities
- Assist with feeding, ambulating and toileting as needed
- Attend staff meetings and trainings
- Demonstrate an eagerness to learn and enhance skills that promote cultural competence
- Participate in events related to understanding institutional racism and building cultural competence
- Other duties as necessary and assigned
