The district operates several food service facilities designed to support students' nutritional needs, helping them to perform their best throughout the school day and promoting healthy eating habits from a young age. As part of its community-focused mission, the Jamestown Public School District values inclusivity, equal opportunity, and strives to maintain a respectful and professional atmosphere for both staff and students. The position is physically engaging, requiring standing for extended periods, lifting, bending, and ensuring strict adherence to health and hygiene standards as guided by the National School Lunch Program and state regulations. Assistants are expected to handle multiple tasks, including preparing meals for satellite locations, monitoring tray accuracy to comply with reimbursable meal requirements, maintaining production records, cleaning and sanitizing kitchen tools and areas, managing inventory, and helping with food deliveries. Communication skills are crucial as this role involves constant interaction with the Food Service Director, Kitchen Manager, coworkers, delivery personnel, students, and other school staff, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
This position not only demands practical kitchen skills and physical stamina but also qualities such as professionalism, organization, and the ability to accept constructive feedback for continuous improvement. The Kitchen Assistant is required to dress according to food safety standards, including the use of hairnets, aprons, and gloves when necessary, reflecting the district's commitment to health and safety. The role embodies a combination of food preparation expertise, customer service, inventory management, and compliance oversight, making it a multifaceted position critical to the district's ability to provide a reliable and enjoyable meal service experience for its students.
