Job Description
Fortrex and Safe Foods are industry leaders in food safety solutions, specializing in both contract sanitation and chemistry for the food processing industry. With over 50 years of experience, these companies have built a reputation for creating long-lasting partnerships with their clients and ensuring the highest standards of safety in food production. Employing over 10,000 dedicated team members across more than 250 plants in North America, Fortrex and Safe Foods operate with a corporate headquarters based in Atlanta, Georgia. Their commitment to protecting the food supply fosters a safer environment where families can consume food without fear, making the health and safety of everyone — from plant team members to consumers — a top priority.
The Food Safety Sanitor role is pivotal in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of food production environments. This position requires individuals who are meticulous, dedicated, and safety-conscious. The sanitor is entrusted with performing sanitation labor through the eight steps of sanitation, while strictly adhering to all food safety policies and procedures. Working cooperatively with leads and management, the sanitor ensures that sanitation procedures meet company and regulatory standards, thereby minimizing contamination risks throughout the plant.
The role demands physical stamina, as it involves lifting heavy hoses, equipment, chemical containers, and standing, crouching, or moving around for extended periods. Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, face shields, eye goggles, aprons, boots, and safety glasses, especially when handling chemicals. The work environment may expose the sanitor to wet, hot, and cold conditions, necessitating adaptability and resilience. Additionally, safety awareness and strict compliance with lock-out tag-out (LOTO) procedures are essential to prevent accidents during maintenance and cleaning activities.
Fortrex and Safe Foods emphasize ethical standards, teamwork, and ongoing innovation as part of their corporate values. The organization believes in winning as a team and advancing a safer future through sustainable and cost-efficient food safety solutions. Employees in this position are offered opportunities for training and development, ensuring continuous growth and professional advancement.
Working as a Food Safety Sanitor with Fortrex and Safe Foods offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to food safety initiatives that affect millions of consumers. The company provides comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, basic life insurance, short- and long-term disability coverage, a retirement plan, paid holidays and vacation (varying by location), as well as employee assistance programs. Fortrex and Safe Foods are committed to equal opportunity employment and provide reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities, reflecting their inclusive and supportive workplace culture.
