pOpshelf is a retail concept introduced by Dollar General in October 2020, designed to provide a unique shopping experience with a focus on affordable, non-essential household goods. The stores primarily target suburban women with household incomes ranging from $50,000 to $125,000, offering a curated selection of products that blend quality and trendiness.

Each pOpshelf location typically spans approximately 9,000 square feet and features a vibrant, modern aesthetic with organized, brightly lit aisles that encourage exploration. The product assortment includes home décor, seasonal items, health and beauty products, arts and crafts supplies, party goods, and a curated selection of food and beverages.

Most items are priced at $5 or less, ensuring affordability without compromising on style.

As of April 2025, pOpshelf operates 180 stores across 21 states and territories in the United States. Texas leads with 48 locations, followed by Georgia with 18, and North Carolina with 17. The stores are strategically placed in suburban areas to attract a broad customer base, with the city of San Antonio, Texas, having the highest number of locations at seven.

In March 2025, Dollar General announced plans to close 45 pOpshelf stores and convert another six to the Dollar General format during the first quarter, as part of a store optimization review. This decision reflects the company's response to the evolving retail landscape and the need to adapt to changing consumer preferences.
