In March 2025, On The Border filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, citing inflationary pressures and changes in customer behavior. Despite this, the company continues to operate existing locations and explore future options.

In May 2025, Pappas Restaurants Inc. acquired On The Border, adding the Tex-Mex chain to its portfolio.
