The City of Lakewood, Colorado, is a vibrant and diverse municipality located immediately west of Denver. Established in 1969, Lakewood has grown to become the fifth most populous city in Colorado, with a population of approximately 155,984 as of the 2020 U.S. Census.

Lakewood offers a wide array of services and amenities to its residents and visitors. The Community Resources Department manages 114 parks, 240 miles of shared-use trails, four recreation centers, a community center, two golf courses, indoor and outdoor performing arts venues, a museum, and visual art galleries.

Additionally, the department provides early childhood services and organizes signature events such as Cider Days, Big Belmar Bash, and the Sounds Exciting! Summer Concert Series.

Public Works Department

The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining and planning Lakewood's infrastructure. This includes permitting, licensing, land use planning, building inspections, development review, transportation planning, engineering, street system review, and surface water and stormwater management.

The department also advances housing affordability and rental unit safety to support community well-being.

Library System

The city is served by the Jefferson County Public Library system, which operates multiple branches in Lakewood and surrounding areas.

The library offers a collection of more than 1.3 million books, periodicals, CDs, and DVDs, in addition to computer and internet resources available to the public.
