As part of the larger Zingerman's Community of Businesses, the deli exemplifies a deep commitment to quality, authenticity, and community involvement, making it a beloved destination for both locals and visitors alike. With a dynamic team-oriented environment, Zingerman's Deli strives to provide not only great food but also a great workplace where employees can thrive and grow.
The Porter position at Zingerman's Deli plays a crucial role within the Deli Purchasing Team, serving as the operational heartbeat that supports daily purchasing, inventory, and quality control processes. This full-time role offers a competitive wage of $18 to $20 per hour, which includes tips, highlighting the value and respect the company places on the efforts of its team members. The position requires availability for 30 to 40 hours per week, with a flexible schedule including weekend shifts, ensuring that operational needs are met continuously throughout the week.
As a Porter, you will be responsible for receiving and quality checking all incoming food and products that stock the delicious offerings at the deli. This role demands meticulous attention to detail as you track orders, maintain accurate inventory records, and collaborate closely with other deli departments to ensure the seamless delivery of the Zingerman's experience to every customer. The position not only involves logistics and inventory management but also entails regular communication with vendors and internal teams to address and resolve any discrepancies or quality issues swiftly.
Beyond operational duties, Zingerman's Deli invests in employee development by paying you to learn the food business, requiring no prior food knowledge but a passion and enthusiasm for acquiring new skills. As a valued team member, you will enjoy various benefits including a free meal on each shift, paid breaks, staff discounts across all Zingerman's businesses, access to health insurance options, and a super discounted bus pass. Additional perks such as paid time off and opportunities for growth within the organization make this an attractive and rewarding career path.
Working at Zingerman's Deli means being part of a supportive, inclusive, and energetic work culture that champions diversity, equity, and inclusion. The company emphasizes creating a respectful environment where employees can be their authentic selves and contribute meaningfully to the organization's success. This Porter position demands physical stamina and flexibility, including the ability to handle heavy lifting, perform repetitive motions like bending and stooping, and maneuver between different deli levels. It is a job designed for individuals who are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and excited to bring positive energy to a fast-paced and fun workplace.
Overall, joining Zingerman's Deli as a Porter offers an exceptional opportunity to enter a specialized food service career within a beloved local institution. If you are looking for a dynamic job where you can grow, learn, and contribute to a community-focused business that values both its customers and employees, this role will perfectly suit your aspirations and skills.
