Job Description

Zingerman's Delicatessen is the flagship location for the renowned Zingerman's Community of Businesses, a collection of food enterprises recognized for their dedication to traditionally made, full-flavored foods from around the world. Operating for over 40 years, Zingerman's Delicatessen has become an iconic food destination known for exceptional quality and service. Its commitment to excellence recently earned the establishment a prestigious James Beard award nomination for best service in the country, reflecting its standing as a leader in the culinary and hospitality fields. The deli’s reputation draws guests in long lines, eager to experience the carefully crafted sandwiches and delicious chocolate bars considered among the best available. As part of Zingerman's, the deli embraces open book management, encouraging transparency and shared knowledge among its staff. The workplace culture is celebrated by employees who consistently identify it as the best job they've ever had. Working at Zingerman's means joining a diverse community of colleagues—many of whom aspire to own their own businesses one day—making it a robust environment for growth and entrepreneurial spirit.

This role is for a Barista at Zingerman's Next Door Cafe, part of the larger community business system. The position is available on both a full-time and part-time basis, with hourly compensation ranging from $16 to $18 per hour, inclusive of tips. Those hired will work between 11 AM and 8 PM, with required weekend availability. The job is designed for individuals who enjoy dynamic workdays filled with interaction and variety. Responsibilities include preparing and brewing a variety of teas and coffees, making espresso-based drinks following detailed recipes, and engaging guests with enthusiasm and high energy. Baristas will taste and score coffee regularly during shifts to maintain the highest quality standards and will adjust coffee preparation to ensure the best flavor. The role requires handling monetary transactions via a Point of Sale system, restocking and rotating products, maintaining cleanliness in dining and work areas, and actively participating in team meetings, huddles, and company events.

The position at the Next Door Cafe offers an excellent learning opportunity for individuals passionate about food and service. Employees will gain a deep understanding of Zingerman's mission and vision, learn to deliver the famous "Art of Giving Great Service," and master the four steps to order accuracy. They will develop sales skills, refine their professional tasting palette, and experience firsthand how a successful business operates. The cafe’s hours of operation are typically 7 AM to 7 PM daily, with shifts beginning as early as 6 AM and ending as late as 8 PM. Preference is given to candidates with full-time availability, although part-time applicants are also considered. Success in this role requires punctuality, a passion for providing excellent customer care, a love of great food, and an enthusiastic, energetic approach to work. Zingerman's dedication to diversity and inclusion ensures a welcoming and respectful workplace where everyone can contribute fully and uniquely, with equal access to opportunities and resources.
