Job Description

Zingerman's Bakehouse is a renowned wholesale bakery, retail shop, and baking school located at 3711 Plaza Drive in southeastern Michigan. Zingerman's Bakehouse is currently seeking a Savory Cook to join their enthusiastic and dedicated team. This full-time position offers a starting wage of $16 per hour, with potential increases based on experience. The Savory Cook will be responsible for preparing a variety of scratch-made soups, salads, sandwiches, and other savory components that are sold in the local retail shop. This role is perfect for individuals who are passionate about food, enjoy bringing joy and comfort through meals, and thrive within a collaborative and supportive work environment. No prior culinary experience or formal training is required as the company provides comprehensive paid training.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to stand, lift, and bend for up to 8 hours with breaks
  • ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly
  • ability to perform repetitive motions including fine manipulation of hands and fingers
  • full availability to work 40 hours weekly between 5am-2pm, including weekends and holidays
  • full availability in November and December with no additional time off
  • no prior cooking experience or formal culinary education required

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to stand for extended periods

  • good hand-eye coordination for fine manipulation
  • willingness to learn and follow recipes accurately

Job Duties

  • Slicing, dicing, stirring, and frying
  • making grilled cheese sandwiches to order
  • preparing, weighing, and measuring spices for scratch soups, dressings, and components
  • piping, frying, and glazing French Crullers
  • assembling, packaging, and labeling sandwiches and salads for grab-and-go cases
  • processing and prepping raw meats and produce
