Job Description
Zingerman's Bakehouse is a renowned artisan bakery located in Michigan known for its commitment to crafting high-quality, hand-crafted breads using traditional baking techniques. The Bakehouse is part of the larger Zingerman's community, which has a reputation for fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture that values creativity, teamwork, and personal expression. With a rich history of baking excellence, Zingerman's Bakehouse emphasizes natural ingredients, freshness, and artisanal methods to create some of the best breads in the region. This dedication to quality and innovation has made the Bakehouse a beloved destination for bread lovers and a standout employer in the food industry.
The Morning Bread Baker role at Zingerman's Bakehouse is an exciting opportunity for individuals who enjoy working in a dynamic, physically active environment where they can bring their passion for baking to life. This position involves making and baking a variety of naturally leavened, hand-shaped artisan breads using freshly milled flour and traditional methods. The job is full-time, requiring 40 hours per week with shifts generally between 5am and 3pm, including weekends, holidays, and full availability during peak months of October through December. The starting pay is $16 per hour, negotiable based on experience, and no prior baking experience is required, making this an ideal role for those eager to learn and grow in the craft of artisan bread making.
Working at Zingerman's Bakehouse means joining a supportive team of bread bakers and management partners who promote a culture of respect, creativity, and shared decision-making. Employees are encouraged to be their authentic selves and contribute ideas, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and continuous learning. The team works closely together, managing all aspects of the bread-making process from preparation to proofing, baking, and cleaning. This role demands physical stamina, attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, and a strong work ethic to keep up with the fast-paced environment of a busy artisan bakery.
In addition to hands-on baking experience, employees at the Bakehouse receive a comprehensive "bread-ucation"—an education in artisan bread baking techniques and processes—alongside a unique opportunity to learn about Zingerman's nationally acclaimed business practices. The company supports growth from within, as exemplified by management partners who began their careers as hourly staff, highlighting the potential for personal and professional development. Employees can also expect a full benefits package after 90 days, including company contributions to medical, dental, and long-term disability insurance, paid time off, and other perks such as a 401k matching program, paid training, and employee discounts.
Overall, the Morning Bread Baker position at Zingerman's Bakehouse offers an enriching work experience for those passionate about artisan baking. The role is a blend of physical work, creativity, and a strong team-oriented culture within a business that values quality, tradition, and growth. Bakers here do more than just make bread—they help create a vibrant community centered around food, craftsmanship, and excellent service.
