The Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to fostering a positive environment for youth development in the community. The Youth Program Specialist position is a crucial role within the Program Department, reporting directly to the Director of Program Services. This part-time, non-exempt position offers an hourly wage typically starting at $19 to $20 per hour. As a floater, the Youth Program Specialist is tasked with providing mentorship and delivering engaging, high-quality programming across various branch sites, beginning each day at the Jennifer Loscher Branch. The role requires flexibility and independence, as the specialist covers staffing shortages, supports program implementation, and adapts programming to meet the needs of individual sites. Key responsibilities include facilitating national Boys & Girls Club programs, local initiatives in various domains such as character development, education, career readiness, health and life skills, the arts, and recreation.
The Youth Program Specialist is responsible for fostering a safe, positive atmosphere that encourages youth participation and leadership. The role involves active supervision of youth members during program activities, ensuring that discipline policies are enforced fairly and safely. The specialist must be skilled in crisis management and well-versed in emergency preparedness, including CPR and first aid. They are also expected to maintain clean, organized workspaces and promote healthy team dynamics with staff and volunteers. Communication skills are vital, as the specialist interacts frequently with co-workers, parents, community members, and members themselves, relaying important information and compiling clear and concise reports.
This position demands a candidate with an intermediate level of experience in youth development programs, preferably within a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization. The ideal candidate will possess advanced knowledge of youth development principles, strong organizational skills, and the ability to motivate and manage young people safely. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, along with specific instructional aid qualifications as recognized by the San Marcos Unified School District. The position also includes ongoing professional development requirements, with mandatory staff trainings every six months to ensure program quality and adherence to Boys & Girls Club philosophies.
Physically, the Youth Program Specialist must maintain a high energy level and be capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously. The role requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, perform physical activities such as stooping and climbing, and lift up to 40 pounds. The specialist will travel daily between the main branch and school sites, with mileage reimbursement offered for travel within the district. The position offers a structured hiring timeline, including multiple stages from phone screening in late June and July to onboarding and staff training in mid-August to prepare for the school year.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Meet Instructional Aid requirements as per San Marcos Unified School District
- Work experience in youth development, preferably with Boys & Girls Club
- Valid identification and minimum age of 18

Job Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age and have valid identification

- Completion of 4 hours and 2 training courses every 6 months
