Youth Program Specialist

The Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos is a well-established non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young people to reach their full potential. This part-time, non-exempt position offers a competitive hourly wage typically starting at $19, with opportunities to earn $20 per hour based on experience and performance. The Youth Program Specialist will report directly to the Director of Program Services and will function as a floater among various branches within the San Marcos Unified School District. The employee will begin each day at the Jennifer Loscher Branch before being assigned to cover sites needing staff support. When all locations are fully staffed, the Specialist will assist in reducing staff-to-youth ratios or supplementing program facilitation as directed.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide mentorship and engage young members in activities that enhance their personal development and help them grow as productive, responsible citizens. The Specialist will be responsible for planning and implementing both National Boys & Girls Club programs and local initiatives. These activities are designed to positively influence youth members and maintain a fun, safe, and nurturing atmosphere at all times. The Specialist must be adaptable and capable of managing independent programming across different sites to ensure that scheduled events are delivered successfully without interruption.

Essential duties include leadership development, program planning, communication, youth supervision, and maintaining professional standards consistent with the organization's mission. The Specialist will empower youth to become confident leaders by role modeling and recognizing their achievements through established systems like ASSET validations and healthy incentives. Participation in staff training and ongoing professional development is mandatory to ensure program delivery aligns with Boys & Girls Club philosophies and best practices.

This position requires interaction with various stakeholders, including youth members, parents, co-workers, program coordinators, and the wider community. Effective communication skills are crucial, as the Specialist will need to present information clearly in meetings, write accurate documentation, and respond to the needs and feedback of all affiliates. Supervisory responsibilities also encompass ensuring youth safety during programs, enforcing appropriate discipline with proper documentation, and adhering to safety protocols such as CPR, First Aid, and emergency preparedness.

Physically, this role demands maintaining a high energy level while performing multi-tasking duties. The Specialist should be able to stand or sit for extended periods, handle physical activities such as bending, climbing, and walking frequently, and lift up to 40 pounds. Mobility between sites during shifts is required, with mileage reimbursement provided for travel within the San Marcos Unified School District.
