Job Description
The Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos (BGCSM) is a reputable community-based organization dedicated to supporting youth through various programs aimed at enhancing their social, emotional, and behavioral well-being. BGCSM is committed to providing safe, supportive, and enriching environments for children and adolescents, fostering their growth into healthy, responsible, and productive members of society. As part of its mission, BGCSM integrates social emotional and behavioral health supports within its Club community, focusing on creating an inclusive atmosphere where youth can develop essential life skills and overcome personal challenges.
The Wellness Coach role at BGCSM is a part-time, non-exempt position offering $19.00 per hour, working approximately 20 hours per week across 1 to 3 site locations within the San Marcos community. This role reports directly to the Site Director and the Wellness Program Director and does not have any direct reports. The Wellness Coach is a frontline professional responsible for providing individualized mentoring and support to youth who need enhanced social, emotional, and behavioral assistance. This professional will play a key role in helping members understand and manage their emotional and behavioral challenges by utilizing techniques such as calm down corners, coping mechanisms, and safe spaces.
As a Wellness Coach, the incumbent will support youth during challenging moments using proven de-escalation techniques, while maintaining clear, timely communication regarding observed behavioral challenges. Collaboration with the Site Director and the Wellness Program Team is essential to address behavioral support needs effectively and implement positive behavior management strategies. The Wellness Coach will aid members in practicing adaptive skills designed to replace challenging behaviors, ensuring progress through careful documentation and data tracking.
In addition to direct member support, the Wellness Coach will contribute to the development and implementation of behavior support plans and positive intervention strategies. Active participation in weekly staff meetings, professional development, and training concerning counseling, mental health, and wellness is an important element of this role. The Wellness Coach is expected to uphold confidentiality, provide active supervision to ensure members' safety, and participate in various BGCSM training and events as required.
This position requires an individual with a genuine empathy and emotional intelligence to work effectively with youth and families, along with robust organizational and problem-solving capabilities. Experience in delivering and receiving constructive feedback, strong verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are critical components of success. Previous experience working with children and adolescents facing emotional or behavioral challenges is preferred, as is the demonstrated ability to remain calm and employ de-escalation techniques during stressful situations.
The Wellness Coach must be at least 18 years old, possess valid identification, and either have or be able to obtain a valid California driver’s license. Reliable transportation is needed to travel between various Club sites across San Marcos. The role demands a high energy level, the physical ability to stand, walk, climb, and lift objects between 10-20 pounds. Overall, this part-time Wellness Coach role offers a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on youth development in the San Marcos community by supporting their behavioral and emotional health in a dynamic and collaborative nonprofit environment.
