Job Description
The Youth Prevention Specialist position is with a respected organization focused on delivering community health and educational prevention services. This organization, dedicated to serving Native American populations, prioritizes culturally informed prevention initiatives targeting youth and adults within the community. The role is critical in implementing and continuously assessing evidence-based curriculums designed to promote prevention education effectively. The organization values collaboration, advocacy, and culturally relevant programming that supports the holistic development and well-being of its clients and native community members.
As a Youth Prevention Specialist, your key responsibility will be to coordinate, plan, and oversee curriculum-based prevention and education programs tailored to meet the needs of youth and adults. You will play a pivotal role in managing the BRAVE Program, a specialized initiative focusing on prevention education. This position demands strong program management skills, including assessing outcomes, preparing detailed reports, and recommending enhancements to improve effectiveness. Additionally, you will manage grants ensuring all deliverables and reporting requirements are met, which is essential for sustaining program funding and compliance.
The role also involves significant community engagement, including coordinating community events and workshops aimed at providing outreach about prevention education. You will work closely with tribal populations to provide outreach and follow-up services on prevention matters and related issues. Furthermore, you are responsible for delivering educational presentations on substance abuse prevention, intervention, and related topics to families and community groups.
Record keeping and data management are crucial elements of the role. You will handle requisitions for program supplies, maintain and authorize records and reports such as training records, activity logs, and program data, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in communications with directors and grant officers. Collaboration with other departments and agencies is a key factor in promoting successful program implementation. The position requires flexibility, as you will assist in emergency management programs and other assigned duties as needed.
This full-time position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field, alongside certification as a Certified Prevention Specialist in the state of Texas. Candidates should ideally have at least three years of experience working with youth. The ability to travel for training sessions and weekend program activities is essential, and applicants must possess a valid Texas Driver License and be insurable. Successful candidates must pass a post-offer drug screen and a criminal background check.
The Youth Prevention Specialist should be knowledgeable in community health and substance abuse prevention, including familiarity with youth-focused evidence-based and alternative activities. Strong skills in curriculum design, teaching, program delivery, data analysis, survey development, and report writing are required. Proficiency in MS Office and excellent organizational abilities are essential for managing multiple responsibilities efficiently. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are necessary for effective interaction with local agencies and the community.
Physical demands include frequent sitting, standing, talking, and hearing, with occasional reaching and lifting up to 40 pounds. Vision requirements encompass close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. This role supports the advancement of Native American cultural values and requires cultural sensitivity.
This description highlights the principal responsibilities but is not an exhaustive list of duties. The employer reserves the right, under the Indian Self Determination and Education Assistance Act of 1974, to prioritize employment, training, and contracts to Native Americans.
