Job Description
Young Life is a renowned Christian ministry organization dedicated to engaging and supporting youth through evangelism, discipleship, and fostering vibrant spiritual lives. With a focus on high school ministry, Young Life operates with an exclusive Christian mission ingrained in the principles of proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ. The organization emphasizes its core belief that every employee and volunteer should serve as a servant of God, actively promoting Christian values and ministry throughout their work.
Young Life is committed to creating a supportive and dynamic environment for young leaders and volunteers. The organization’s culture is deeply rooted in spiritual development, leadership training, resource mobilization, direct ministry engagement, and essential ministry support functions. The role of YL Staff Associate I is designed to immerse individuals in these core areas by combining formal training with hands-on ministry experience, enabling them to effectively manage and expand Young Life’s impactful outreach.
The YL Staff Associate I position requires a strong faith commitment to Jesus Christ, adherence to Young Life's Statement of Faith, and a willingness to embody and advocate the organization's biblical standards both during and outside working hours. This role focuses on high school ministry and typically involves managing an assigned high school team while overseeing ministry activities across multiple schools in the region. The position prioritizes relationship-building with young people, volunteer leaders, and community stakeholders to nurture a thriving and supportive Christian environment.
Key areas of responsibility include spiritual development, where the associate cultivates a strong personal faith through prayer, reflection, and active participation in church communities. Leadership development is another essential component, requiring the associate to recruit, train, and mentor volunteer leaders, foster effective teamwork, and vision cast to support the organization’s mission. Resource development duties encompass fundraising efforts, donor communication, and building strategic relationships with community influencers such as principals, pastors, and parents.
Direct ministry is a core function of the role, involving active participation in contact work, organizing clubs, and leading discipleship programs like Campaigners and summer camps, which are critical to engaging youth meaningfully. Ministry support responsibilities include managing administrative tasks, finances, and communication to ensure smooth and transparent operations. The position demands adherence to professional standards and Young Life policies to maintain organizational integrity.
Young Life values training and ongoing development highly, with structured core training programs designed to enhance spiritual maturity, leadership skills, apologetics understanding, and ministry competencies. This phased training supports the associate’s growth within the first two years, supplemented by supervised regional training sessions and skill-building activities. While a college degree is preferred, direct ministry experience, strong relational skills, and effective communication abilities are crucial for success in this role.
Work conditions for this position reflect the dynamic nature of ministry work, including exposure to outdoor environments such as camps, which may involve physical demands like hiking, horseback riding, and enduring varying weather conditions. Flexibility, resilience, and a wholehearted commitment to the ministry’s cause are vital.
Overall, the YL Staff Associate I role offers an enriching opportunity for individuals passionate about youth ministry, leadership development, and living out their faith in a tangible way. The position provides a pathway to serve with purpose, influence a diverse community of young people and leaders, and grow personally and professionally within a respected Christian ministry organization.
