Job Description

Union Gospel Mission (UGM) is a privately funded 501(c)(3) non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished. The organization operates as a Christ-centered ministry, committed to serving the poor, homeless, drug-addicted, and mentally ill populations. Recognized for its deeply rooted Christian values, UGM requires all its employees to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and to actively participate in Bible study, prayer, devotions, and Gospel sharing. This commitment underscores the ministry aspect of every position within the organization, emphasizing that each role is vital and valued in fulfilling UGM's mission.

UGM is currently seeking a part-time Resident Assistant to work 16 hours per week. This position is critical to the day-to-day operation of the Shelter, where the Resident Assistant supervises client services and oversees house management. The role focuses on maintaining a clean, safe, and healing environment while fostering communication among staff, clients, and volunteers. The Resident Assistant is entrusted with ensuring that all shelter operations align with UGM and site-specific policies and procedures, providing leadership and assistance to volunteers and desk staff, and managing accurate client data and reporting. This person plays an active role in client supervision, including administering tests, managing medications, and organizing supplies.

The Resident Assistant's responsibilities extend to security, requiring vigilance in monitoring facilities through cameras and security checks, verifying alarms, and maintaining safety protocols including confiscation of weapons and drugs and conducting necessary room and vehicle searches. The individual also maintains healthy boundaries and awareness of emergency procedures, promptly reporting any violent or critical incidents.

Site-specific duties include managing camps near the facility, supervising meal time logistics, and evaluating Work Therapy residents. The position also includes assisting with chapel duties, coordinating volunteer activities, and managing clothing room operations during assigned shifts. The Resident Assistant participates actively in outcome-based management processes and client self-evaluations.

The role requires a grounded and committed Christian with strong interpersonal skills, capable of exercising compassion and discernment while modeling the teachings of Jesus Christ. The ideal candidate is computer literate and experienced in various Microsoft Office programs and security equipment. Minimum qualifications include three years of sobriety if in recovery, a valid Washington or Idaho driver’s license, and clearance for criminal background checks and TB tests. CPR/First Aid certification is recommended.

Physical demands of the role require continuous emotional balance, patience, tolerance for complex client and management issues, and the ability to move between facilities. The work environment is primarily indoors and involves sitting, standing, bending, and reaching. UGM offers a supportive and fulfilling workplace environment framed by a strong commitment to ministry, and while this position is part-time, it forms an essential part of the Shelter's mission to provide a safe and healing space for vulnerable populations.
