The Underwriter II role is an essential position within ProAssurance’s workers' compensation line of business, specifically supporting the Eastern Alliance division. The position serves as a pivotal contributor to the company’s strategic initiatives and financial targets by performing underwriting activities that help ensure profitability and customer satisfaction. The primary responsibilities include analyzing new and renewal risk submissions, making underwriting decisions within delegated authority, and fostering strong agency relationships to support the company's business goals. This role requires the underwriter to work independently while collaborating closely with internal teams and agency partners to facilitate accurate policy issuance, endorsements, and renewals. Additionally, the position involves participation in team meetings to review challenging accounts, promote solutions, and contribute to company projects and profitability studies.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, insurance, or related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of two years insurance underwriting experience
- Experience in workers' compensation underwriting preferred
- Ability to analyze and make underwriting decisions independently
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to attend industry functions and represent the company positively
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, insurance, or related field or equivalent industry experience with designations
- Minimum of two years insurance underwriting experience, preferably in workers' compensation
- Active pursuit or attainment of professional insurance designations such as CPCU, CIC, CRM, AU, ARM, or AINS strongly preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency in underwriting with targeted financial and operational results
- Ability to work independently with earned underwriting authority
- Proven skills in establishing effective internal and external relationships
- Basic knowledge of loss sensitive plans
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with diverse audiences
- Attention to detail and ability to manage priorities and deadlines
Job Duties
- Analyze and document risks for new and renewal business within approved authority to support underwriting objectives
- Make independent decisions about accepting, modifying, or declining new and renewal business within regulatory and company timelines
- Perform functions for accurate issuance of quotations, policies, renewals, endorsements, cancellations, and necessary documentation
- Cultivate and develop company-agency and company-client relationships through regular communication and visits
- Collaborate on recovery initiatives ensuring adherence to return to work guidelines with agents, clients, claim representatives, and risk management consultants
- Prepare for and participate in bi-monthly team meetings to discuss adverse accounts and solutions
- Monitor book of business and agency results, facilitating collaboration between underwriting, claims, and risk management departments
- Review monthly results and goals to implement changes for meeting strategic initiatives
- Participate in professional growth through company projects, industry events, self-study, and mentoring associate underwriters
