Job Description

Giant Eagle is a leading retail grocery company known for its commitment to quality, service, and value across the communities it serves. Established with a mission to nourish life’s moments, both big and small, Giant Eagle has built a reputation on not just providing excellent food and beverage products but also offering a shopping experience that is welcoming, knowledgeable, and customer-focused. The company values compassion, care, and respect among its Team Members, fostering a culture where individuals can grow professionally while contributing positively to their communities. With numerous locations and a strong focus on creating a supportive work environment, Giant Eagle stands out as an employer that prioritizes its employees' career development and overall well-being.

The role of Wine Steward at Giant Eagle is both dynamic and essential in delivering a distinctive shopping experience for customers looking for quality wine and beer selections. This position is best suited for individuals who possess a deep knowledge of wine and an enthusiasm for sharing that passion with others. Wine Stewards at Giant Eagle are more than just sales associates; they are the experts who enhance the customer's wine buying journey through informed recommendations, proper wine pouring techniques, and educating customers on pairing wines with food and entertainment. The role requires charm, persuasion, and excellent interpersonal skills to create a delightful wine tasting experience that sets Giant Eagle apart from its competitors.

This full-time position is tailored for someone with 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in the wine industry, retail food, catering, or restaurant environments. Candidates should be at least 21 years of age due to the nature of the products handled. The ideal Wine Steward is someone who values teamwork and understands that success comes from supporting fellow Team Members and contributing positively to the store environment. Leadership potential is highly regarded, as is a drive to grow within the company’s structure. Certification from recognized sommelier organizations, such as The Court of Master Sommeliers, is strongly preferred and considered a valuable asset to demonstrate expertise and dedication to the craft.

Wine Stewards at Giant Eagle are also responsible for maintaining compliance with all local, state, and federal laws regarding alcohol sales. They actively participate in ongoing training and development programs to keep abreast of product knowledge and customer service excellence. The role involves collaboration with distributors and merchandising staff to curate the best assortment of wine and beer, plan promotional events, and create unique tasting experiences. Attention to detail is crucial in managing inventory, reducing product shrink, and ensuring the store meets its stocking and ordering goals. By embodying leadership and customer service excellence, Wine Stewards help cultivate an environment that encourages guests to return and solidifies Giant Eagle’s position as a top destination for wine and beer purchases.
