Job Description
Urban Wine Brokers is a family owned company founded in 2010, specializing in the promotion and sales of small, artisan wine brands from California, Oregon, Washington, and Europe. With over a decade of dedication to the wine industry, Urban Wine Brokers has cultivated relationships with some of the most talented and innovative winemakers. These relationships allow the company to maintain a unique portfolio of distinctive wines, representing these artisan producers throughout California. The company is known not only for its select portfolio but also for its commitment to education, promotion, and exceptional client service. This dedication has positioned Urban Wine Brokers as a trusted advocate for small winery brands in a competitive market.
The role of the Wine Sales Representative is commissioned-based and offers geographically flexible positions in key areas such as Monterey Peninsula, Central Coast, East Bay, and Tahoe. This role operates on a 1099 independent contractor basis, granting representatives full control over their schedules, allowing for flexible hours that fit personal commitments and preferred working styles. Sales representatives serve as the direct link between Urban Wine Brokers' portfolio of artisan wines and buyers within their respective regions. Their responsibility includes building, managing, and nurturing impactful relationships with buyers through various communication channels including in-person visits, phone calls, and emails.
One of the critical elements of this position is a deep knowledge of the Urban Wine Brokers portfolio. Representatives are expected to study the wines thoroughly, taste regularly, and position themselves as experts within their sales territories. This expertise enables reps to effectively educate customers and promote the unique qualities of each wine brand. By submitting orders accurately and promptly via email, they ensure seamless transactions and customer satisfaction.
The role also requires ongoing coordination and communication with the internal Urban Team. Regular attendance at Zoom meetings and participation alongside wine makers during market events is essential for staying aligned with company goals and fostering deeper connections with producers and clients alike. This collaborative approach helps maintain the brand’s high standard of personalized service while meeting the dynamic demands of the wine market.
Ideal candidates for this position will have prior wine sales experience combined with established industry contacts, particularly within their assigned geographic area. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are crucial, as representatives must engage with a variety of customers and stakeholders effectively. Additionally, candidates must be detail-oriented and highly organized to manage multiple clients, orders, and sales activities efficiently.
Urban Wine Brokers offers an opportunity to join a passionate and knowledgeable team committed to artisan wine brands. This commission-based role rewards motivated and independent salespeople who possess a natural flair for networking and selling premium wines in a fast-paced and evolving environment. If you have the drive, expertise, and passion for wine sales, this position offers an exciting platform to expand your career in the wine industry while enjoying the autonomy of flexible work arrangements.
