The role is a full-time position where the employee will work directly under the supervision of the Wine & Beer Department Manager and Supervisor. The primary purpose of this role is to increase sales and foster customer loyalty through excellent customer service and comprehensive product knowledge. The individual in this position will serve as the face of the wine and beer department, helping customers select beverages that suit their tastes and occasions, providing recommendations for pairings, and answering inquiries related to the products. A strong familiarity with various wines and beers is essential, encouraging a culture of ongoing learning and expertise development. The position also entails stock management responsibilities, including ensuring the sales floor is well-stocked, verifying incoming deliveries, handling special orders, and maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of the department. Attention to detail is critical, particularly in managing product barcodes, pricing signs, and accurate product placement.

Job Requirements

  • ability to understand written and spoken English
  • basic math skills required
  • excellent customer service skills
  • demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands
  • knowledge of current trends in the beer and wine industry
  • ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without accommodation
  • able to stand for extended periods of time
  • manual dexterity with hazardous equipment
  • must be 18 years of age to operate equipment

Job Duties

  • Greet and acknowledge customers
  • assist customer with beer and wine selection and make recommendations for pairings
  • answer product questions and special orders
  • communicate special orders to manager in a timely manner
  • familiarize yourself with as many wines and beers as you can
  • stock wine and beer on shelves, cold cases, islands, and case stacks
  • make sure that wine needing in-store barcodes are stickered and verify for accuracy
  • notify POS of any product barcodes that do not scan with correct information
  • keep the sales floor well stocked and ensuring that all items are represented
  • put excess product that cannot be placed on the sales floor away in the proper place in the storage areas or warehouse
  • check deliveries to verify piece count and note any damaged product
  • notify manager of any discrepancies or problems
  • keep the sales floor as clear as possible of work-related equipment, personal items, and debris
  • regularly dust and clean bottles, shelves, cooler, displays and case-stack display boxes
  • face products, pulling items at the back of the shelf or display forward
  • ensure signage and price tags are correct and in place
  • file all signs and barcodes as soon as possible and before the end of the day
