Job Description
Hy-Vee is a well-established and respected supermarket chain in the United States, known for its commitment to excellent customer service and community engagement. Founded in 1930, Hy-Vee operates over 245 supermarkets across the Midwest, focusing on quality products, customer satisfaction, and a positive work environment. The company is recognized not only for its extensive range of groceries but also for its dedication to employee development and community support. Hy-Vee is an employee-owned company, which means its staff members have a stake in the success and growth of the business, fostering a strong culture of teamwork, pride, and service.
At Hy-Vee, the philosophy centers around providing "a helpful smile in every aisle," emphasizing the importance of friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive customer service. This mission is supported by a workforce that is fully engaged and committed to supporting customers and each other. The company promotes values such as professionalism, customer focus, results orientation, growth mindset, and partnerships among employees, all of which contribute to a dynamic and positive workplace.
The Wine & Spirits Clerk role at Hy-Vee is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about customer service and the wine and spirits industry. This role falls within the Wine & Spirits department and is classified as a non-exempt position. The primary function of the Wine & Spirits Clerk is to provide prompt, efficient, and friendly service to customers, helping them navigate the wide array of products available, answering their questions, and enhancing their overall shopping experience.
This position requires a team player who takes pride in maintaining the highest quality standards for merchandise. Responsibilities include rotating stock to ensure freshness, facing products for an appealing display, replenishing inventory, and adhering to all local, state, and company policies regarding the sale of tobacco and liquor. The clerk also plays a vital role in educating customers about product selections, offering helpful advice and detailed information.
Reporting directly to the District Store Director and Store Management team, including the Wine & Spirits Department Manager, this position does not have supervisory duties but involves collaboration with co-workers to maintain a pleasant working environment and customer satisfaction. The job demands a proactive approach to customer engagement, including learning customers' names, greeting them warmly, and offering assistance beyond sales, such as helping to carry or reach products.
Physical demands are an integral part of the role, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and perform activities like climbing, balancing, stooping, and repetitive motions. The work environment can be fast-paced with exposure to cleaning solvents, temperature changes, and equipment hazards. Equipment such as two-wheelers, cash registers, pallet jacks, and box cutters are commonly used.
With a starting wage ranging from $13.50 to $16.80 per hour depending on experience, Hy-Vee offers a competitive compensation package. Employment is contingent on the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. Applicants are encouraged to visit Hy-Vee’s benefits page to learn more about the company’s offerings.
For anyone ready to contribute to a vibrant and customer-focused team, the Wine & Spirits Clerk role at Hy-Vee promises an engaging work environment with opportunities for personal growth, skill development, and being part of a community-centric company that values its employees as its greatest strength.
